"Dad, if you don't hurry up, we're gonna be late." Melvin said as he rolled his eyes. He was hungry, thirsty and aggravated. His father told him and his brother that they were going to be there for a few minutes, but he had to take all his time.
August waved at his fans and walked towards the twins with a smile plastered on his face. It still felt good to receive so much love from the people that supported him during all these years, so of course when they asked him to take some pictures, he couldn't just say no.
"Finally." Marvin said as they started walking.
And suddenly the two young men felt a hand hitting the back of their necks, "Ouch ! " They exclaimed at the same time.
"Ain't 'cause ya're eighteen, ya can talk ta' me like ya crazy."
They shared a look, shook their heads and followed behind him. They couldn't wait to leave the house and started college. They were tired to be in the house, living with their parents and the siblings that were left. They needed freedom and that's exactly what they were about to get in only one week now. Melvin and Marvin graduated from high school one month ago and since then they couldn't stop looking carefully at the calendar. More the days were passing by, more they were getting excited. Both were leaving the same day, but not to go at the same place. Melvin had a scholarship for basketball in Memphis and Marvin was going to Columbia University for art.
Were they going to miss each other ?
Yes, but they were happy to go their separate ways also. They could finally be their own individual and do their own thing. Melvin was going to be only Melvin and Marvin was only going to be only Marvin. No more twins it and twins that. They couldn't wait to experience that. Of course, they'll stay in contact because even if they wanted to be apart more than anything else, they couldn't live without each other.
As they were getting in the car, Marvin's phone suddenly start ringing. He smacked his teeth, "Great, Karla is sending messages to tell us to hurry up." He said sighing and settling behind the wheel.
"What is she sayin' ? " Their dad asked as he buckled his belt in the passenger seat.
"He'll be there is ten minutes." He answered and replied quickly that they were on their way.
"If someone hadn't forgotten the damn cake." Melvin commented in the backseat.
August turned his head towards him, "I swear ta' God, if ya'on watch your fuckin' mouth." He warned with narrowed eyes. Melvin was known for his big mouth, but even knowing that and instead of ignoring him sometimes, August was always getting mad each time a slick remark was getting out of his son's mouth.
