Chapter Eleven: Anubis' Revenge

I will speak of what happened to the guild members who managed to avoid being blown away by the explosion. Only Euphorbus had not been blow away by the explosion, but Phoebe, Tugulia and Cynthia had all grabbed onto large chunks of rubble and ducked beneath them. Gazual, Fauked and Neldi had all used their magic to shield themselves, and Fryn, Dukhiza and Ketven had ducked behind support pillars. They now found themselves standing in and around an empty crater. Even the foundation had been blasted to rubble.

"I sure hope the council can pay for this," Euphorbus said as he looked around at the destruction.

"Aye, lad," said Ketven, "Since we didn't cause this, we certainly ain't payin' for it."

The sound of running footsteps sounded behind them. A man with almond-shaped eyes and black hair that went slightly past his shoulders came out of the ruins of the room beyond the ruined one they stood in. He gaped at the mages looking shocked then enraged.

"You scum!" he growled, "Did you destroy my guild members?!"

"I'm surprised a sophisticated looking fellow like you would surround himself with all those scum. Did you call them guild members? More like cockroaches really," Cynthia said.

"You bitch! You'll pay with your insolence with your life," the man growled.

"Don't get all worked up lad," said Ketven, "Your guild is destroyed, so there's no reason to cry over spilled milk."

"You're next, scummy potato," the man snarled.

"If Ketven is a potato, what does that make you? A rotten piece of meat?" Cynthia mocked.

"Withering heart!" the man intoned pointing at Cynthia.

Euphorbus jumped between Cynthia and the oncoming spell, which looked a lot like a black heart torn from someone's chest and thrown through the air. The spell winked out of existence as Euphorbus extended his hand.

"Be careful," said Euphorbus, "This is Mummy Dust's guild mater, Anubis."

Anubis drew a scimitar from an ornately decorated scabbard as Euphorbus spoke. The scimitar crackled with electricity. Clouds appeared in the air above the ruins of the building as Anubis raised his hand.

Euphorbus pointed the tips of his swords at Anubis, and the humanoid he had summoned mimicked his movement. Several bolts of lightning shot down from the sky at Cynthia and Euphorbus. There was a flash of movement from the side as Tugulia and Gazual went into action.

Spells flew at Anubis from the front and both sides as Dukhiza, Phoebe, Neldi, Fryn, Fauked and Ketven all cast spells at Anubis as lightning rained down on Cynthia and Euphorbus. Gazual pulled out a piece of metal and made a halberd form from it while Tugulia's fist was surrounded by a spell that made her skin appear to be rippling. Before they reached Anubis, two bolts of lightning dropped from the sky and only quick movements from Gazual and Tugulia prevented them from being fried. The spells that flew at Anubis slammed into a giant shield that Anubis summoned with a gesture. Cynthia transformed into Kagutsuchi and ran at Anubis from around his shield.

"Poison seed!" Anubis barked.

Cynthia suddenly ducked as a green pod shot at her. Tugulia jumped over Cynthia and punched at Anubis. Anubis caught her punch and a blast of lightning jolted into Tugulia's body. Anubis released her fist, and she flew backward to eventually fall onto her rump. Gazual and Dukhiza both attempted to stab Anubis while he was busy blasting Tugulia, but Anubis conjured two swords made of wind and lightning, which parried the blows that Dukhiza and Gazual had attempted to land on Anubis.
