PIC OF CARMELLA TO THE SIDE

After Gabriel left, i headed over to their house. I really was excited for him and Katie, but i understood why he was so worried. With the kind of work Katie did, anything could happen to that baby, but i knew they weren't not going to have it. Katie was so sensitive when it came to children; she had cried along with me when i miscarried Cole's baby.

I knocked on their door and Katie looked disheveled, but that wasn't anything unusual for her. She was always frazzled when she didn't have to work.

"Hi, honey," I said, and she grinned, knowing why i was there before i said it. "I believe congratulations are in order."

"Thank you!" she said, pulling me inside and hugging me. Now that she was older, she had let her hair return to it's darker blond then the beach blond she had it when we were younger, and i like it better on her. "I figured he'd tell you about the baby when he saw you."

"Of course," i said, smiling at her. "Can you believe it?"

"Actually, no," she said, sitting down heavily on the couch. "I know there's something in there, but it all seems so...unreal." She looked at me and i saw fear in her eyes. "I do the kind of work where everything is so real, i can touch it and i get hurt by it. With this, i can't yet touch the little thing. I just know she's there."

"So it's a girl," i said, and she laughed.

"I want a little girl, and i think Gabriel even wants a little girl." I put my hand to her stomach, but all my other sense could pick up was that something had life in there. "I don't think its decided yet."

"You can tell?" she asked, and i nodded.

"Lina taught me a couple years ago when her best friend was pregnant," i said, smiling. "Soon, i should be able to tell you whether it's a boy or girl."

"I know Gabriel would love me not to go to work now, i'm working up until the moment my water breaks," she said, and her voice was firm. "I'm working in the field until the bump gets in the way, then i'll work in the offices."

"I get it," i said, taking her hand. "Trust me."

"I don't want this child to be born into a world that we have grown into," she said, her voice choking up a little. "I want them to grow up in a world that we were kids in, not one where they'll worry that one day Gabe or myself will disappear."

"Katie," i said, taking her hand. "For what it's worth, i will take care of them if something should happen to you two, but i'm trying to make sure that that means if you two have been in a car accident, not killed."

"Thank you," she said, hugging me. When she pulled back, she wiped tears out of her eyes. "So i was going to go shopping today, you want to come with?"

I was about to say no, that i had work to do, but i rethought it. I had been working way to hard this past month, i mean Katie and i would always go shopping once a week, even if we never actually bought anything. "I would love to."

Her face lit up. "Great, just let me get dressed and we'll head out." I watched her dash to her room to get dressed and sighed. I needed to work, but i couldn't say no to her.

"I need to pick up vitamins," Katie was saying. We had gone to our favorite grouping of stores, but she wanted to go into the vitamin store.

"I'll wait for you over there," i said, pointing our favorite Mexican restaurant.

"Alright," she said, moving towards the store. I headed my way, but that's when i caught a glimpse of him. The only reason i knew who he was, was because of the picture that Cole had kept on his side of the room.
