-Chapter Forty Two-
We were sitting around the bonfire roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. Charlotte, one of the girls I met on the beach earlier, came up with a game for all of us to play. We would go around the circle, and tell are most embarrassing moment.
“Austin, it’s your turn!” One of the girls called. Her name was Melissa.
“I know, I know. Okay… Let me think.” He paused. “Alright, my most embarrassing moment was when I was thirteen. I was at this awesome waterpark with my mom, sister, and my sister’s best friend. And, of course, I had this massive crush on my sister’s friend.” He laughed, just thinking about the memory. “So, we went to this huge water ride, right? I decided to be ‘manly’ and show off to Ivory by riding it by myself. When I was at the bottom of the water slide, there was a huge splash, and I fell out of the doughnut-shaped tube and into the water. Okay, here’s the best part… when I came up from out of the water, I felt a slight breeze… my swim shorts had come off—right in front of Ivory and my sister. Ugh, that was so embarrassing.”
We all laughed at him. Poor Austin! I laughed until my sides hurt, along with the rest of the group.
When we were done telling about our most embarrassing moments, Austin and Brent pulled out their guitars. Brent plays guitar? Then, Anthony pulled out a cheap-looking set of bongos. He began to play a beat on them.
Austin almost inaudibly counted to four, and the two of them began strumming a soft melody on their acoustic guitars. The sound of the guitars harmonized together to absolute perfection. I didn’t quite know what song it was, but when the two boys hit the first few lyrics, the song instantly came to mind. We Are Young by Fun..
Give me a second I, I need to get my story straight. I hummed along to it, tapping with my bare feet in the cool sand. When they got to the chorus, we were practically all singing along. I was a little shy at first, but I gradually came out of my shell.
I smiled as we sang to the song. By the time, the bar closes, and you feel like falling down, I’ll carry you home tonight.
For about the next fifteen to twenty minutes, we sang random songs. Austin and Brent on their guitars, and everyone else singing along with them.
After a while, we just went to doing whatever. People were either at the pool or hanging out inside the house. I was in the living room with Melissa, Brent, Austin, and Lily. The four of them were telling me stories about their high school lives. All of us were the same age and still had senior year—the best yeae of all—left to complete.
They were telling me about this holiday-type thing that went on at their school. It was called Prank Week. Basically, from what I’ve heard so far, it’s a thing against the students and faculty. The students would try to prank the entire faculty, and vice versa. It really did sound awesome.
At the moment, they were explaining how last school year, they pranked the math teacher. Somehow, it ended up with the teacher landing in a kiddie pool full of shaving cream.
