-Chapter Seventeen-

I was caught by surprise as I splashed around frantically. I popped my head out of the water, standing up in the shallow water.

Jake stood there laughing at me.

“Jake! Don’t you ever do that to me again, or else. . .” I warned him.

He sobered up. “Or else what?”

“Or else I’ll chop your hands off and feed them to my dog.”

“Do you even have a dog?” he inquired, looking amused.

“No,” I replied automatically. “Wait! Ugh, whatever. Don’t do that.”

He grinned at me. “Fine. So are you ready to start?” he asked.

“Start what?”

“The lesson.”

“What. . .? Oh!” I gulped. “Yeah, I guess so.”

He smiled down at me. “Okay, I’ll go get the boards.” He ran off to where our stuff was set up.

How am I going to do this? Learn how to surf, I mean. Does Jake actually think I’ll be able to do this? If so, than he’s an idiot. A hot idiot, of course.

When Jake was back, he handed me my surfboard. “Okay, do you want to see me go first?”

“Sure,” I answered.

“Okay, watch and learn.” Jake flashed me another smile, showing his dimples, before connecting the leash to his ankle and running out into the water.

He positioned himself on the board and began to paddle out farther into the water. He sat on the board, facing out to the horizon. A few small waves went by. What was he waiting for? Then, I came to realization as a big wave rolled in. Can he really surf that?

Then, he disappeared. Where’d he go!? I started to panic, as I looked up at the massive wave.

He stood there, on his board, riding the wave like a pro, doing tricks and what not.

I sighed in relief.

Okay, I have finally come to a conclusion: Jake looks good doing everything.

Is it wrong to say that a guy looks elegant?

“How was that?” he asked as he jogged back up to me a few moments later.

I gave him a small smile. “Amazing,” I said truthfully. “How did you learn to do that?”
