Chapter Eighteen

-Chapter Eighteen-

“So are you and Jake dating?” London asked bluntly.

I choked on the water that I was about to swallow, coughing violently. What did she just say? Did I hear her correctly?

“Are we what?”

“Dating.”

Hm. So I had heard her correctly. “Uh, no.” I turned my gaze away from her and looked at Jake as he surfed yet another wave. How many has it been now? Ten? Twelve?

“Why not?” she probed. “You two would make such a cute couple!”

“Because I don’t think of Jake that way. Sure, he’s hot and all but—” Then, I noticed what I had said. I just admitted to his sister that I thought he was hot.

Her eyes widened a fraction. “You think he’s hot!” she exclaimed.

“Pft, no I don’t!”

“Liar, liar, pants on fire!”

I rolled my eyes at her inner child. “You act like a ten year old.”

“Is that a bad thing?” She smiled brightly at me.

“Well, it is if you’re twenty three.” I returned her smile.

“So, do you like him?”

“Who, Jake?” She nodded. “No.”

“Aw, why not?”

“I just don’t, I guess. And I’m not ready for another boyfriend. Especially after what happened with—” I stopped there. I couldn’t mention his name. I scowled at the sand, thinking of Christian.

I hate him. I hate him so much. I remember the day all of it happened like it was yesterday. Do you want to know what happened? Of course you do!

“It’s beautiful,” I said, staring out at the beautiful scenery. I sat down on the top of the cliff next to my boyfriend. It was late at night, maybe ten thirty.

 

Christian had taken me up to this beautiful place as a surprise. Fireworks were on display as the lights of the city shone brightly below us. It was a very bright night. The full moon’s light shone down on us.

 

“It’s not as beautiful as you,” he replied.

 

I rolled my eyes at him. “You’re so corny, you know that right?”

 

He snorted. “Of course I know that.” He winked at me, and pulled my closer towards him. I could feel the heat radiating off of him in the cold night air.
