I hiss in pain as small stones and gravel dig into my hands and the fabric of my pants. I let go of joe's hand.

"Oh my god." Joe gasps and I slowly stand up, my legs slightly shaky. With my hand, I gently brush the small stones away from my skin and clothes as I look around to see others jumping onto the roof.

"Damn!" Someone says from begin me. My head snaps in that direction to see an erudite boy, the sleeves of his blazer rolled past  his elbows. with three other transfers from the same faction. Two of them boys, both only in white shirts, blue pants and smart shoes and a girl with long blonde hair, shorter then me and broad with a intimidating gaze.

"I was hoping we would get to see a stiff pancake on the pavement." The boy in front states as he runs a hand through her raven hair. The other three laugh, the sound horrible. Wheezing, snorting, obnoxious and gasping. It isn't nice.

"Leave her alone Gavin." A voice says from next to me. Another erudite boy stands next to me, this one much taller then them with broad shoulders, strong and chiseled features with daring blue eyes. His blonde hair is windswept from jumping of the train and comes down to his jaw. Honestly, he looks stunning, like he could get anything he wanted with a flash of a smile, so why stand up for me? Even more, I'm abnegation and he's an erudite.

The boy, Gavin, rolls his eyes before walking away, his gang following.

"Um... Thanks." I say, turning to him. He smiles at me.

"No problem, they have always been bullies. I've always been the one to stop them." He explains. "I'm Joshua, Joshua Flynn." I go to reply but two arms wrap around my shoulders. From the Corner of my eyes, I see red hair.

"Joshua." Robin sneers and the erudite smirks at them before looking down at me. How do they know him?

"What were you doing?" Sparrow hisses lowly. I've never known for an amity to be slightly aggressive. Joshua must have done something bad to make them react like this.

"I was just saying hello to the sweet girl here." He replies and robin steps forward towards him. Quickly, I grab his arm and he stops. Joshua puts his arms in a surrender pose, but the smirk never leaves his face.

"I'm not doing any harm. Only talking." His eye slams on me as he walks away and into the crowd. The twins visibly relax.

"Wow, he must have done something seriously wrong for you to react like that." Joe pipes up as he crosses his arms, stepping Infront of us.

"You could say that." Robin sighs. I go to ask more but I am interrupted so I quickly close my mouth.

"Listen up! My name is Eric!" We all turn to the end of the building. "I am one of the dauntless leaders!" My eyes scan him. He looks too young to be a leader, only a year older then me, a few at the most. He stands on the ledge like it's a sidewalk, like one slip and he won't fall to his death.

"Several stories below us is the members' entrance to our compound. If you can't muster the will to jump off, you don't belong here." His eyes scan each and everyone of us, a smirk on his lips, an evil glint in his eyes, like his amused. When Eric's eyes land on me, they hover for a moment and familiarity washes over me, but I can't remember where from. Before I have to time to figure it out, his cold eyes move on.

"You want is to jump off a building?" Asks a Candor girl. Her hair is a short light brown and she has glasses perched on her nose. Honestly, I don't know why she Is shocked.

"Yes." Eric replies as he smirks at her, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Is there water at the bottom or something?" She asks, copying his stance.

"Who knows?" He taunts as he raises a pierced brow at her. She gulps in return. "Initiates first." the crowd splits in half, leaving us initiates room to walk up. My eyes glance around, no one looking eager to jump off the building and into the unknown. My eyes glance to Gavin, he's looking at his sleeves, messing with them, trying to act casual.

"Come on, we haven't got all day." Eric says and I feel a surge of energy rush through. I walk towards the edge and snickers appear behind me.

Eric steps aside, his eyes on me, making me feel uncomfortable under his gaze. Slowly, I step up, feeling the wind whip around my clothes. The building I'm stood upon forms one side of a square with three other buildings. In the centre is a huge hole on the ground, I try to peer down but I can't see anything.

Fear rushes up my spine at the height as I am forced to clench my teeth in fear people will hear them chatter. My stomach lurches and goose bumps rise on my arms.

"Any day now stiff." Eric groans. I don't bother to look at him as I hiss my reply between my teeth.

"Shut up." His eye brows rise and more snickers appear behind me, but they all quickly stop once he glares at them. If I don't jump now, I won't be able to and they'll laugh. I can do this. I am brave. I have faced worse things then this. Slowly, I close my arms, turn and let myself fall back. The air howls in my ears as it wraps around me, almost cradling me. The coldness makes my body ridged as I hold in a scream. My heart thuds against my chest as I hurtle to the ground, my eyes opening slightly, Eric turning into a dot on top of the building. That's when I remember. Eric is the one who took me to tobias on visiting day.

The hole surrounds me and I drop into darkness.

My body hits something hard. It's gives way and cradles my body as a snap rings through my ears. A high pitched squeal is realised from my lips as the impact knocks the air from my lungs. I wheeze slightly, body stinging as I grip the net underneath me. A net. A net is at the bottom. A breathless laugh escapes my lips as I slowly sit up, my body still shaking. I just jumped off a building. Me, an abnegation transfer, who has never done anything dangerous or daring, has jumped off a roof.

Hands are stretched out towards me and I grab the closest one to me, letting it drag me of the net and onto the ground. As my feet touch the floor, I stumble slightly, but two hands grab my shoulders, steadying me. I look, my face still cold due to the wind and some I my hair falling into my eyes.

"Thank you." I say but then my heart leaps at the person stood in front of me. "T-tob-" my brother puts a hand over my mouth to silence me.

"It's four now. New name, new identity." I nod as he drops his hand. "How did you do that?" I understand what he means, but before I can reply, someone speaks up from behind him.

"Can't believe it." Tobias side steps slightly, one hand still on my shoulder as I look to the owner of the voice. A dark haired girl with three silver rings through her right eyebrow.

"A stiff, the first to jump? Unheard of." She says as she smirks at me, arms crossed over her chest.

"There's a reason she left them, Lauren." Tobias says as he squeezes my boulder, almost as if he is proud of me. Her eyes dart from me to 'four', from 'four' to me. She smirks, a knowing look in her eyes.

"I guess your his stiff sister." My eyes widen and she chuckles. "Four has told us a lot about you. Don't worry, most of it good." My eyes glance to 'four' and he chuckles, scratching the back of his neck. "The only thing he hasn't told us is your name."  I look back to her.

"You can just call me stiff." I state and her smirk grows.

"Like brother, like sister." She says before turning around. "THE FIRST JUMPER! STIFF!" A crowd appears through the dark as my eyes get use to it. They cheer and pump their fists before two loud shouts ring down the whole. The net snaps under the weight and everyone laughs. Robin and Sparrow. They must have jumped at the same time. The dauntless cheer again.

Tobias turns to me, a small smile on his lips.

"Welcome to dauntless, little sis."
