Project L81K8 (Hunter x Hunter Fanfiction)

Prologue (Pt. 1)

She slowly walked down the corridor to No. 01H1's room. No. 01H1 was the first victim of the Phantom Troupe's experiment, Project L81K8. The 50 scientists that were involved could all change their appearance, so they could make themselves look like anyone, even the victim's parents! This project had been ongoing for 7 years, so only when she was 5, No. 85H8 was moved to this building, away from her mother, her home, her life. She didn't even know her true name.

She walked into No. 01H1's room and the door was locked behind her. She looked around. She saw a girl, about 3 years younger than her with an eye-patch on one eye and the other eye brown. She had a few robotic inserts in her face and arms. 85H8 wouldn't have been surprised if they had tried and failed to put a robotic eye in as well. She had always thought herself lucky that she was part of the poison endurance department instead of the cyborg part, but she hadn't thought that they were this bad.

'No. 01H1-'

'Call me Laika!' She interrupted, leaving No. 85H8 shocked. No-one had dared interrupt her before. Most of the inmates feared her as they knew she had special privileges and torturing rights, being a daughter of one of the scientists, Scientist No. 16 to be exact.

'L - Laika?' She had never called anyone by their name before, she had only ever used numbers.

'Yes! I named myself after this project, since I was like the first victim!' Laika seemed so happy and carefree, she liked her already. But she was confused.

'Wait, so you made up your name by changing the numbers to letters?'

'Yep!'

Hmm.... I wonder.... 

There was a slight pause as Asha tried to form a sentence.

'Umm, Laika, if my number is 85H8, what would my name be?' 

Laika thought for a moment. 

'Hmmm, nobody ever asked me a question like that...' 85H8 waited patiently.

'Oh! It would be Asha!'

'Asha? Hmm, never heard that one before..... but hey, I've never heard any name before!' Laika's happiness was beginning to rub off on Asha. She actually felt happy, even though all her life she was taught that you could only feel pleasure after hurting someone.

Suddenly, there was a bang on the door.

'Hey! I don't hear any screaming in there!'

They heard the sound of a key in the door, and they saw the door slowly unlocking....

Asha was quick to react. 

'S - Sorry! She's hard to break!'

The key stopped. There was a long pause. Then the man outside spoke. 

'Understood.'

His footsteps slowly died away, and Laika let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.

'Wait, Laika! This is our chance!'

'Huh?' Laika cocked her head to one side, completely confused.

Asha decided that there was no time to explain. 'Just follow me!'
