INFOs AND VOCAB - Please Read First To Understand

This is for the benefit of some readers who are not based in the Philippines (not sure if I have any, but I'm hoping I will have soon 😘).

This story is set in the Philippines. And we have certain traditions that are a bit different from other races. Here are some tidbits you need to know first before you proceed reading. 😊

EDUCATION IN THE PHILIPPINES
Elementary school is only until sixth grade, and high school is four years : freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. After that, it's college. Based on the age of the characters of this story, especially the female lead character, their batch was not part of the K+12 program. That's why they're in college already. But our government has recently considered this K+12 thing, which means Kindergarten plus 12 years (until 10th grade, then Junior and Senior high... or something 😅) which is the same as the education in other countries.

CLOSE FAMILY TIES
You may notice that the lead characters may still be living with their parents. This is one of many Filipino values. We have close family ties, and as much as possible, parents prefer their children staying with them until marriage. And in some cases, even after marriage, parents would still accommodate their children with their spouses.

A BIT OF VOCAB:

"Nanay" or "Mama" - means "Mom"

"Tatay" or "Papa" - means "Dad"

"Tito" or "Tita" - means "Uncle" or "Auntie" (consecutively). Here in the Philippines, we refer to our parents' friends as Tito or Tita also.

"Kuya" or "Ate" - means "older brother" or "older sister" (consecutively). We also refer to our older siblings' friends as Kuya or Ate, or anyone older that we are as a sign of respect.

"Bunso" - means the youngest in the family

"Anak" - means "child," "son," or "daughter." It's usually used by parents as a term of endearment to their children.
