Chapter Six: The Canadian Express.

The sun was rising back in the forest where Humphrey and Kate lay, sleeping, in a small sandy - but dry - cave they had found which the rain had dug out from under the roots of a massive oak.

Humphrey sighed in his sleep, the soft morning light falling onto his face, and rolled over, just at the same time as Kate did the same thing. His eyes flittered open and he found himself nose to nose with her beautiful, sleeping face . . . He smiled, remembering the night before. The fact that he cared for her was no surprise to him, he had known it for a long time, though he'd never admitted it . . . But did she care for him as he did her? He wanted to think so, but he didn't want to have any false hopes.

"Score!" A voice outside suddenly called, and with a soft tap a rock bounced off of both Humphrey and Kate's heads. They stood together and found themselves staring into each others eyes, their noses almost touching.

To Humphrey's satisfaction Kate didn't instantly pull back, instead she looked sleepily surprised . . . but content. He smiled to himself.

"Well, well, well! What do we have here?" Marcel said from outside, putting his golf club over his shoulder and looking over at Paddy who stood opposite him, leaning against a root.

"I think we caught them at quite a bad time!" Paddy chuckled, not unkindly.

"No, I say we caught them at a good time!" Replied Marcel.

"Indeed, indeed!" Paddy chuckled.

Kate suddenly stood and slipped by Humphrey, giving him an affectionate swipe with her tail as she passed him. He grinned and followed her.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

"No!" Marcel replied, looking angry." The question is what are you doing here? I give you a first-class ticket home-"

"Yes, a straight shot! Right to the pin!" Put in Paddy.

"-and you blow it!" Marcel ended.

Humphrey stepped forward and chuckled depreciatingly." Yeah, over a cupcake."

"Uhg!" Marcel exclaimed in disgust." Ridiculous desert! Cupcake!"

"Well actually sir, they're quite delicious!" Paddy put in.

Kate sighed." There has to be another way for us to get back to Jasper?!"

Marcel threw up his wings." Another way?!" He exclaimed." Another way?! Haha, always another way - what am I? A travel agent!"

Humphrey suddenly stepped forward." Come on!" He said, deciding it was time to toss in a bit of flattery." Are you kidding me? What! A great sportsman like yourself always knows a few ways to win the game!"

Marcel stepped back, looking sufficiently pleased with the complement. He gave his club a test swing, looking thoughtful." Well . . . there could be a train."

"Well actually there is a train, it's the Canadian Express -" Paddy exclaimed, passing Marcel a rock.

"Paddy, please!" Marcel exclaimed, cutting Paddy off." It's called the Canadian Express."

"Yes!" Paddy cut in again." It shoots right by Jasper Park!"

"Right by Jasper Park!" Repeated Marcel, looking slightly annoyedly at Paddy." If you can catch it -"

"You'll be home in no time!" Paddy said.

"No time!" Marcel finished." Very fast!"

"Great!" Exclaimed Kate, stepping up beside Humphrey." Where to we board?"
