The Long Wait

Cheresse's heart thumped as she got close to the proprietor's office. She took in a deep breath and knocked on the door.

You may come in, Mr Aniston said.Have a seat.I guess you are Ms Cheresse Parker? She nodded and cleared her throat. It's good you came on time . Its nothing to be scared of.I just wanted you to be here for the orientation since you are new here and interact with the other students.My assistant will be here in a jiffy to show you to the hall. Excuse me he said and went out of the office.

Cheresse who was twenty minutes late finally joined the others in the hall.The only seat unoccupied was at the very first row so she nervously walked quickly and quietly to take her seat . After two hours of sitting the orientation finally came to an end and they dispersed to their classrooms.

Mrs. Fletcher a petite woman walked into the  class and asked for an introduction from each student. I'll like to welcome you all once again to Fountain Hills High School. Well I'm sure you already know who I am.I'm
Mrs .Fletcher and  I'll be taking you guys for elective mathematics for the term.You are to abide strictly to the rules of my class which will be pasted on the notice board. Topics we'll be treating are all in the book you were given and I'll advice you all to learn ahead of the class and study very hard . If there are no questions I'll take my leave now.
A few minutes later the bell went off  and everyone except Cheresse went out for break.Two girls who had just finished  taking their snack  saw Cheresse in the class and went in to talk to her.

Hi!

I'm Tracy and this is my best friend Shantelle and you are?

Cheresse.

Actually we were wondering what you are doing in class all alone so we decided to come find out.

I'm actually not used to this kind of environment with so many people moving here and there and besides I'm not hungry.

Oh! Okay. Their food is great you should try it some time.

Sure.

Well I was hoping we could be friends.What do you think? I hope I'm not being too pushy?Shantelle asked.

Oh no, its fine with me.

It's been nice meeting you. Hope we get along well . Tracy said.

We sure will, she smiled.

We'll see you after school then, Shantelle said . Cheresse nodded and they rushed out of the class.
