Finding Angels Wings

Ch3

Dante

“God, my back is killing me,” I groaned in pain as I leaned over and allowed my adoptive mother to gently rub away all the aches and pains. She carefully avoided my wings and I tried my best to keep them away from bothering her.

“Well, Dante it is your own fault for sneaking up on that human girl. You really should stop sneaking up on people, it’s a terrible habit of yours,” my mother scolded me as she worked on a particular hard kink in the middle of my back.

“Ow! Not so hard Mom,” I said in pain. Gabrielle Martins found me when I was half dead on the side of the road when I was ten years old. I had been badly beaten and left for dead after I had stole food from one of the street vendors. She was a kind vampire woman who had a son of her own, Axel. Axel took to me like a charm as soon as we met, I was not the kindest to Gabrielle at first but I soon warmed up to her after a few months. She was like a mother to me and showed me nothing but kindness from the start.

I could honestly say that I loved her like a mother and she was there for me when no one else was. I groaned slightly as she applied some ice to my bruises. God, that girl did a number on me. How could such a dainty, blonde haired little short shit do this to me? I easily towered over her and obviously she was weary of me.

We heard the door creak and Gabrielle turned around sharply.

“Axel! Get your skinny little butt here! You have so much explaining to do young man!” yelled our mother as she gripped Axel by his ear and he started yelling.

“Mom! This is undignified! I am not five anymore! Ow Jesus woman, your grip is like freaking Satan’s. OW!” she twisted his ear harshly and I couldn’t help but snigger.

“Santa! I meant Santa!”

Our mother pushed him down onto the couch and glared at him. I was angry at him as well but I felt bad for the kid, he was already facing mom’s wrath and that was bad enough.

“Where have you been?! Off gambling again right? That’s all you do Axel!” she ranted at him and he hung his head in shame.

“Mom, I wasn-“

“No! Axel, just no! Do you realise the emotional stress you put me through? Dante was searching for four days. I was going to call you in missing but he convinced me not to!” she yelled and I noticed that tiny claws were peeking from her fingers. Yep she is mad.

“You look so sick too! Have you been feeding? Huh?  Don’t you give me that look!”

“I was running away from Toni’s men, okay?! I have a debt to settle with them and they won’t, they just won’t give me time. Ma, I didn’t want you guys to get hurt. I just wanted to ride this out until I got some money. I'm sorry Ma, but today, today the weirdest thing happened to me!”

Our mother was sitting on the couch now her posture indicated that she was tired and you could see the wrinkles in her face right now as she was so vulnerable. Our mother was the epitome of natural beauty. She had long flowing light brown hair, flawless creamy coloured skin, sharp brown eyes and a small delicate frame.

“God, Axel you will be the death of me,” she whispered, and you could hear the sorrow in her voice as she spoke to him. I shook my head slightly and stretched my back, it felt much better after being tended too. I flapped rusty coloured wings softly, folding them against my back and leaning into the couch.
