On Earth, people come from different walks of life: religion, culture, race and philosophy. Despite these differences, most tend to act upon their emotions of anger, love...and one which is of most concern, grief. There comes a point in one's life where they must deal with the pain and suffering for someone they care deeply about; but it is the way they choose to grieve that can change everything. Centuries ago, about C. 3150 BCE, the Egyptians used a method to allow the dead to pass on to enlightenment... They used a sacred text called "The Book of the Dead."
Another translation of this book was titled "The Book of Emerging Forth Into the Light." These ancient texts consisted of numerous magic spells intended to assist in the journey of the dead through the "Duat," which they believed to be the afterlife. For a thousand years the book was scribed and translated by many priests. The Egyptians believed this to be a gift from Ra himself, but nobody was sure about its true origins. In the 2nd Century CE, the text had been lost through history until 1798 when Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Egypt. This, in turn, encouraged Europeans to gain huge interest in the ancient lands of Egypt. A year later in 1799, Vivant Denon, a French archeologist discovered the mysterious "The Book of the Dead" and set out to learn its secrets.
After years of false translations, the first major studies of the text began in 1842. This gave scholars a chance to see the numerous spells in each chapter, which brought about the name "The Book of the Dead" in general circulation. Many people doubted the legitimacy of the text and questioned whether it even had any supernatural qualities. This changed on September 7th, 2010, when the very balance of reality on Earth took a drastic turn. A very dark spell was contained in the book that ended up changing everything. This fatal dark spell changed two thirds of the human population into what we now call "Revenants," creatures from the underworld that returned from their graves to terrorize the living.
In 2020, the humans fought with everything they had to fend off the undead, but humanity was reaching its breaking point. When all hope seemed lost, the threat of extinction near, a being, believed to be a myth, approached the remaining humans. This being was none other than the Grim Reaper...Death himself. He proposed a deal to give humans the strength to stand up against the Revenants by sharing his "power" in exchange for a single human sacrifice who would become a reaper.
At first the humans were skeptical. Sacrifice ourselves? Who would volunteer to such a thing? But one person did. After much quarrelling, a young girl raised her hand. The Grim Reaper reappeared in silence to watch as the brave girl stood ready for what was to come. A wave of his long skeletal arm, a sparkle of flashing light, and the deal was done.
Humanity finally had a small glimmer of hope against the overwhelmingly powerful Revenants, which lead to years of battle. These battles would tip the balance of life, leaving only one question...Who would survive? The Revenants, the reapers, gods, demons, or us?
