Chapter 15

Zara's Pov

The spinning slowed, and I tumbled out of one of the many fireplaces in the Ministry of Magic, ready for battle. I ran down to the Department of Mysteries, searching for Carrie. I reached the maze of doors, and, by some great fluke, I managed to find the right door on the second try.

I heard voices round the corner and took a deep breath. I could do this.

I ran towards the voices and stopped suddenly in horror.

Alyssa and Salazar were standing over Carrie, torturing her. She stared up at them defiantly, her eyes blank, twitching slightly. All of a sudden, she flopped down.

"Well it seems our work here is done." Salazar muttered smoothly. He clasped his wife's hand and, together, they apparated away.

I ran over to Carrie and shook her. "Carrie!" I cried. "CARRIE!" She looked up at me and blinked. She showed no recognition. What had they done to her?

"No." She replied, shaking slightly. "NO MORE!!! NEVER!!! She lunged at me and began throwing wild punches in my direction. Carrie was excellent at fighting, and I terrible, so she easily beat me.

My head was spinning, my whole body aching and the taste of blood was in my mouth. Carrie clasped her hands around my neck and began to squeeze.

"No," I choked weakly. "Please-" suddenly, just as I was about to lose consciousness, Carrie's grip loosened and she flopped backwards.

"Carrie? Are you okay?"

There was no reply.

Suddenly, a warmth began to spread throughout my body and I felt myself changing form. I grew and grew, until my head brushed the ceiling. I had changed into a giant, glowing leopard.

I lifted one of my paws. It had seemed foreign before, but as I gently placed it on Carrie's body, it felt just right. Gradually, she began to glow.

I stepped back.

Soon, she was glowing so bright, I couldn't look at her. She brightened and brightened until suddenly-

It all stopped. Carrie remained motionless.

Then, to my surprise, something burst out of her stomach. I gasped.

It was a bright white dolphin.

I watched as it swam playfully around me, squeaking and chattering without  a care in the world. It came to rest by Carrie, where it gave me a mischievous smile and dived back into her body.

I felt myself shrinking back to normal as Carrie began to stir. She sat up and I ran to her.

"CARRIE!" I cried. "YOU'RE ALIVE!" I ran to her and hugged her frail body tightly. But instead of hugging me back, she pushed me away. "What's wrong?" I asked. She didn't reply.

Carrie shook her head. "You shouldn't have saved me Zara," she said sadly.

"What do you mean?! You're my best friend - of course I wanted to save you!" Carrie just shook her head again, pain streaked in her grey eyes.

I had never been so confused. Why wasn't she grateful? How come Carrie wasn't dancing around, hugging me and praising me, egging me on to go to the past?

That's when I remembered.

I ran over to the table that displayed a container of Time Turners and pulled one out. This was it! I was finally going to prove to everyone that not all Slytherins are bad!

"Carrie!" I cried, presenting the necklace to her. "We can do this!" She didn't look up from the map she was studying.

"What are you doing?" I asked finally. She still didn't reply. That's when I realised that she'd put herself under a Trance Spell - an incantation that kept the user completely focused on the task they were attempting at the time. It was impossible to undo by anyone but the user and could only be undone when they had either completed their task or ran out of time to work on it.

I shrugged. Carrie would be as ecstatic as me when she found out what we were about to achieve. I guess I'd just have to drag her along with me.

I slung the time turner around our necks and pointed my wand at it. "Celeriter nent!" I muttered. The necklace spun and spun, faster and faster until, suddenly, the world around us twisted, turned and eventually disappeared completely. Colours flashed past us and everything rushed about so fast, that it made me feel slightly sick.

Eventually, everything began to slow down until the spinning had fully stopped. I hadn't even realised that I'd had my eyes screwed tightly shut until I opened them. I could hardly believe my eyes.

The world around us had changed. I was inside a much older looking department of mysteries, facing hundreds of aisles, each lined with crystal balls. The prophecy room.
I ran down the hall, dragging Carrie along with me, until we reached the fireplace. I picked up a small amount of floo powder, stood in the fireplace and cried "Tom Riddle's orphanage!"

Fireplaces flew past us, dousing us in soot. It wasn't long until we slowed down and appeared in a random house. I was confused until I realised that Tom Riddle's orphanage was a muggle building, with no Floo Network set up, and so we'd have to walk from the nearest wizarding home - namely this one.

Luckily, it was only a few houses down from the orphanage, and we were soon at the window of Tom's room. This was where I stopped.

Could I really kill him? He was just a boy! I knew that he had killed hundreds of people, but did taking his life in return really justify it?

At that moment, Tom himself came to the window and opened it a crack. I saw his angry scowl and forgot all about what I had just thought.

"What do you think you're doing?" He growled at me.

Without a moment's consideration, I pointed my wand straight at him and cried "AVADA KEDAVRA!"

A look of shock passed over his face. Then, he slumped down on the windowsill, never to awaken.

Thunder rolled in the sky and lighting flashed. The colours started swirled around us again. And suddenly, Carrie awakened from her trance. She looked up at the sky and then over at me.

"Zara," she growled dangerously. "What have you done?"

A/N: Sorry this has taken so long! The next chapter will be up really soon, I promise!

After I've finished this book, I'm planning a new one called 'The dark side.' Here is the description:

Torturing to get answers, hating muggleborns and worshipping the Dark Lord is all 9 year old Bellatrix Black knows. But all this changes when she meets a strange Gryffindor girl called Freya, imprisoned in the family dungeon, who teaches her all about the other side.

Bellatrix dotes on Freya and the two girls are soon unlikely friends, until one day, Freya defends Bellatrix and, as a result, is killed by Bellatrix's parents, while their child is forced to watch.

Years later, for Bellatrix, things couldn't be better. She's in her seventh year of Slytherin, highly feared by all the younger students, on the track to becoming a death eater and engaged to the gorgeous Rodulphus Lestrange. But a war is beginning, and Bellatrix's help is enlisted by Molly, Freya's younger sister, to join the Order of the Phoenix - with her connections, Bellatrix could help win the war.

Bellatrix is torn. Should she continue living her wonderful life, guilt eating at her? Or should she help Molly, and return Freya's debt? And even if she does join the good side, will everyone accept her after all she's done?

What do you think? Once again, I'm so sorry about taking so long!
