"I did it Carrie!" I cried excitedly. "I killed Voldemort!" She stared at me in disbelief.
"Oh no. This is really, really bad, Zara." Carrie replied. What was she on about?! We'd been working towards this for months!
"But what about-?" I stopped talking and stared in horror at the world around me.
It was dark and deserted - a terrifying wasteland. The only sign of life was a couple of dementors sweeping about the streets.
"Carrie, what-?" She shushed me.
"We've got to hide. Come on."
She grabbed my wrist and pulled me into the nearest house. After she'd pulled the curtains and locked the door, I deemed it safe to speak.
"What's going on Carrie?" I asked. She sighed.
"Okay. I'll tell you everything, just please don't try to kill me." I nodded.
"Did your dad tell you about his journey to the future?" Another nod. "Well, he wasn't the only one that has time-travelled recently. My parents went to the past when Bellatrix was alive. Together, they devised a plan on how to bring her back to life in future.
"Bellatrix had always been known for loving Voldemort. This was never the case. Bellatrix only sucked up to him in the hope that she would one day win his affections and be able to overcome Voldemort so that she could be the most feared. Unfortunately for Bellatrix, he could not love, and so she remained second best.
"My parents learnt about your power, and they knew that you could use you for their plan of a perfect world ruled by fear - where muggles and muggle-borns are virtually non existent. So they -" Carrie faltered, then took a deep breath. "So they trained me. Their plan was for me to befriend you and try to turn you to-"
"You mean that this has been fake this whole time?!" I cried incredulously. "How could you do that to me?" Carrie swallowed.
"Our side." She continued. "I pretended to hate my parents so that you would trust me. I came up with the plan to lure you into a trap. I have been planning this since before we started at Hogwarts."
"What?" I cried. "But you-"
"The plan was for you to kill Voldemort, since then Bellatrix would have never died. She planned to fill the world with fear and suffering by using dementors. Having the power that you do, you would be able to control them perfectly. My parents were first thinking that they could get you to do this by using the imperious curse, but when they found out about how your family neglected you they decided to use this to their advantage, assuming that by convincing you that you could start over with them, you'd turn to their side. What my parents didn't take into consideration was that you were stronger and smarter than they thought."
I stared at Carrie in disbelief. This girl, who I had considered to be my best and only friend, my rock, my advisor, had never felt the same way. She'd used me. Anger, pain and upset coursed through my veins, charging me with some sort of electrical energy. I felt myself changing form once again, except this time I welcomed the feeling.
Carrie stared as I finished changing into a leopard, standing regally above her. With a throaty growl, I pounced on my quivering prey. Seeing no other way out, Carrie ran. I chased her out of the building, across the street and into the opposite house. Two lone dementors flew almost comedically out of the way, due to the patronus effect of my form. Carrie ran to the nearest wall, and pulled out her wand. "Bombardia maxim..." I flicked the small object out of her hand and smiled cruelly. Pinning her against the wall I went in for the kill-
Carrie stared up at me hopelessly. "Please." She whispered, as I dug my claws into her skin. "This isn't you, Zara."
I felt a sudden rush of sadness and began to shrink again. I felt my form change once again, to that of my human self until I was curled up on the floor, sobbing hopelessly.
