Zara's Pov
Aruna's head snapped up. "What?" She said quickly.

"I am ever so sorry Aruna. Your parents are dead." McGonagall replied sadly.

"No." Aruna said, her voice becoming unsteady. "It can't - I mean I -" She cut off into heavy silence.

"If there was anything we could have done, we would have, I assure you," McGonagall said shakily. "But-"

"Well, there is one thing you could have done." Tom said quietly.

McGonagall looked shocked. "What?"

"Well," said Tom, his voice rising, "for starters, you could have protected them more efficiently,"

"Thomas Oliver Malfoy, with all due respect-"

"AND WHAT ABOUT THAT STUPID CHARM THE AURORS PUT ON OUR MANOR?" Tom yelled suddenly. "WHAT KIND OF BLOODY IDIOT PUTS A CHARM ON TWO PEOPLE TO STOP THEM FROM LEAVING THEIR HOUSE?" "AND YOU!" He added, spinning around and pointing at me, "TELL YOUR PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A FATHER THAT HE NEEDS TO SORT HIS ACT OUT! OH RIGHT, I FORGOT! YOUR PARENTS MIGHT AS WELL HAVE DISOWNED YOU FOR HOW THEY ACT WHEN YOU'RE AROUND! AND THEN THEY COME AND DUMP YOU ON OUR DOORSTEP! AS IF WE WANT A PIECE OF CRAP LIKE YOU! NO ONE LOVES YOU ZARA, YOU ARE UNWANTED AND I WISH YOU WERE DEAD!"

I stared at him, horrified. Then I stood up. "Tom. You are an idiot." I began, my voice scarily calm. He laughed at me.

"AND YOU ZARA, ARE THE SORRIEST ARSE I HAVE EVER SEEN." He yelled. I swallowed hard and continued.

"And I am sorry for you, seeing how desperatly hard you are trying to upset me, when you know really, that it wasn't my fault at all that your parents are dead. Yet I understand that for you, I am an easy target. Just whatever you do, please don't-"

"WHY DID YOU LET THEM DIE?" Tom yelled, having turned back to McGonagall. He shot spell after spell at her, desperate to inflict pain on someone. "WHY COULDN'T YOU-"

"EXPELLIAMUS!" Aruna shouted, her usually calm face twisted with anger. "This is ridiculous Tom. Can't you see that you're not the only one who is upset? They were my parents too." She said quietly. "And as for Zara, she has been through quite enough these past few years. We were like her family, and mum and dad loved her like she was their own. In a way, this is even harder for her, as she has now lost two sets of parents." Aruna's voice began to wobble and she sat back down, tears cautiously edging out of her eyes. Tom looked shocked and sat by Aruna, embracing her as she sobbed into his shoulder.

McGonagall's eyes were also watering slightly and I could feel tears prickling the back of my own. There was a long, devastated silence, occasionally interrupted with Aruna's sobbing.

"If you would like to," McGonagall began hesitantly after the crying had ceased, "we could visit the manor now."

Aruna and Tom looked at each other and eventually nodded.

"I suppose we'll have to sooner or later," Tom said, wiping away a few of his own tears.

The wreckage looked even worse than I imagined.

Tom swallowed. "Looks like the murderers had a good time," He said.

I looked around my cousins. Some looked scandalised, others angry.

And then I turned to Aruna.

Her auburn hair fell over her face which was streaked with tear tracks. She was huddled over Rose's body, her head bowed.
