Chapter Four

"Are you sure I look ok?" I turn to Camille who is absolutely beaming. I'm wearing an outfit that Rebecca picked out for me while I was walking with Klaus. There was a party at the compound where Klaus lived and Cami and I had been invited. She was wearing a pale blue, short sleeved dress that came just about her knees. Paired with a diamond necklace and pearl earrings and black heels. Now SHE looked stunning with her hair in an elaborate bun, bangs hanging on each side of her face.

"You are beautiful!" She exclaims as I turn back to the mirror, studying my reflection carefully. Rebecca had picked out a bright red floor length gown with a V neckline. The dress was silk or something and clung graciously to my curves. Cami had let me borrow a pair of diamond stud earrings and my hair was curled. It framed my face just right and brought out my bright blue eyes that Cami had lined with eyeliner and mascara.
"Hey, Lilly?" I turn to Cami and see concern on her face, "Be careful ok? I can see Klaus likes you but be careful. He's a great guy but he comes with some . . . baggage. I don't want you to get hurt." I can definitely see where Cami is coming from. . There is something about Klaus that seems . . . dangerous. I nod and we walk out the door.

When we get to the compound it's beautifully decorated with lights and other decorations. Cami squeezes my hand, noting my hesitation.

"Don't worry. You'll be ok." She reassures me, leading me into the compound. As soon as we step in the door my senses are overwhelmed. There are people everywhere and music is playing loudly. Cami tightens her grip as we make our way through the crowd to the center of the courtyard. I look up and see Klaus standing above us on a platform, spiral staircases on each side. He's gazing out into the courtyard, a troubled look on his face. His brother, Elijah is standing next to him.

"I need a drink, you want one?" Cami asks. I shake my head and she wonders over to the bar in search of a drink. I stay where I'm at, patiently waiting for her to return when a man walks up to me.

"Hey there baby." He says, taking a step towards me. I step back and Klaus is standing behind me.

"Back off." He snarl, grabbing my waist protectively.

"Uh . . . sure sorry boss." The man stutters as he disappears into the crowd. He turns me around and pulls me out onto the floor.

"What was that all about?" I question, before adding, "Boss." Klaus grins, twirling me around the dance floor.

"Don't worry your pretty little head about that." He says. "Why don't we go somewhere a little more private?" I bite my lip, looking for Cami. He chuckles, sensing my hesitation.

"Oh come now love I won't bite." He smiles and I melt. I grab is hand and he leads me up the spiral staircase.

"Lilly!" I hear Cami yell behind me.

"I . . . I'll be right back Cami," she gives me a worried look, "I'll be fine I promise. Go, e . . . enjoy the party." She sighs and turns around, disappearing in the crowd. I turn back to Klaus and we walk the res of the way. He leads me into a room and shuts the door. My heart skips a beat as I look around the room. He comes up behind me and I can feel his hot breathe on my neck.

"You smell lovelier than you look." I squirm and he places his arm around my waist, pulling me towards him.

"Klaus, stop." I murmur, pulling away from him.

"Don't tell me you're still scared of me love." He says, sitting on the end of the bed that is in the room.

"No ... it's not that. All of this is just so new to me... I feel like there is something everyone isn't telling me; about you, about this town." Klaus grins as he grabs my hand making me sit next to him

"You're very clever Lilly. I'm afraid I haven't been quite honest with you about who. . Rather what I am."

"I. ... I don't understand Klaus." He pulls my hand to his chest.

"What do you feel?" He asks, looking deeply in my eyes.

"Feel? I... I don't feel anything. ." I say, confused and not quite sure what he's trying to get me to understand. I look down at my hand then up at Klaus.

"Exactly." He says as he opens his mouth. Fangs appear and his turn black, veins appearing underneath. I jump off the bed, screaming, and run to the door. Klaus appears in front of me, blocking the door.

"Leaving so soon?"
