Escaping into Terror

Jimmy's body landed with a sick splat.  I looked in horror at this once living organism. He was my friend, and now, he's a corpse, and sooner than later, I'll meet the same fate.
I swiveled my head to look at something else, the expression on his face, just disturbed me. It looked like he was at peace. I hope he is.
Instead of crying, or just sitting there, I decided to push him out of my mind.
I needed to get help. I looked around, for anything to use. Then, it popped into my mind like a lightbulb, I wouldn't need to do anything. I had a different scent, therefore, I could just walk out, especially now, because the beast was busy. I crawled to the kitchen and got my things, and I pissed my pants. This monster, had heard me. I hadn't taken this into account. I stood as still as a pole, watching this thing stumble around. It didn't seem to be very intelligent, but it was smart enough to use physical force. Which, in my mind, classifies it as a brute. Very brutal and physical, yet not very intelligent in any way. He kept to the kitchen, using his nose to smell me, he obviously thought something was there, because there was a strong scent of food, and almost untraceable, but still smellable, the smell of humans.
He kept turning his head, looking for a moving object, his eyes trying to pierce the veil. It's eyes were rolling like a ball, as if it would never stop.
"How could it do that?" He thought to himself. If scientists could study this thing, they obviously would be baffled by this discovery.
It turned to leave, but then the unmistakable sound of a explosion erupted near the ceiling, right next to its head. I fell, again, I had been nocked flat on my arse. I looked up, expecting my death. And once again, I was wrong. The beast had several metal bars sticking out of its head, and had concrete and metal debris littering it's corpse. I walked right up to it. It's crazy eyes rolling around uncontrollably. It was dead now, but those eyes, make it seem alive. I slowly lifted up my right arm, and extended my middle finger.
"Hope you choke on this, because you killing an innocent person". I turned, and left, without another look.
I want to say, that as soon as I exited, that I was greeted with people, but I was greeted with fire, and burnt corpses, but the corpses were not human. Water filled my eyes, and the smoke licked my face. A fit of coughing erupted from me. I hated this, but I pushed onward. But when I got to the end of the smoky passageway, I just wanted to give up.
People were being slaughtered. Stabbed, ripped in half, stretched, mutilated while they were still alive, it was just a horrible sight. I then stepped into a room, and threw down my bag, suddenly remembering it. I dug through it, only finding some things I thought were cool, until I came across something that I had found. It was a little dull, and a rusty on the end, but it could definitely serve a purpose. I forgot, about this machete. It was from the Old World, but it was gonna serve me a purpose.
I left the room, and I sprinted to the nearest giant. I slashed it's leg to get its attention. It stopped, turned and was reaching for me. I slashed, downward, and I slit it wrist. It reacted in shock, and in just a few more seconds, anger. Never before had it fought a human with such bravery, and with such luck. It reacted by starting to use its other hand, but the monster never got the chance to use it. I jumped up, and stabbed it in the throat. I ripped my blade from the brute's neck. And watched satisfyingly as the brute began to squirm like a fish. I turned to face the other giants, who were still distracted. I sprinted again, jumped, and stabbed the nearest one in the gut, he tried to attack me, but I ducked. The abomination, raised its arm, aiming to kill, when I ripped the blade from its torso. It stopped in midstrike, and fell over. And I mercilessly jumped on its chest, and stabbed it repeatedly. And the third, and last giant, looked over at me. I finished him within a minute. His guts decorated the hall.
"That's for the friend you took from me". I murmured. I fought, with great anger and sadness, powering my muscles to do what needed to be done. I cut down all sorts of beasts, and humanoid figures. And, just as I wanted, I made it to the bunker gate. Which, was barricaded, and was fending off lots of mutated spiders. I killed about 8, when I got my machete stuck in a spider abdomen. It wouldn't come back out.
Angrier about my luck, I turned, grabbed a cement block and beat a spider to death. I grabbed another and ripped out one of its legs, and beat it to death. Another jumped towards me, but I just jammed my fingers in as many eyes as I possibly could. Greenish liquid spurting from its various wounds. I fought off over 20 of them. When I was finished, there was only one more spider, but it was slightly larger, faster, and stronger. It was currently trying to pull a gates' defender out from the gates entrance rooms window. I pulled my machete free, and this spider heard me. It turned, and with a lot of speed, it jumped from the window to me. I simply waited for it, my arm holding the blade. It flew through the air, and it got so close that I thought I screwed up. But I didn't. I forced my blade through its nearest eye, and with its body wriggling, but still attached to the blade, I start slamming it onto blocks of cement. String, venom, blood, and guts, came oozing from its crushed body. I sat down, next to the wall, and looked at the defenders, they had horror, sadness, and relief flooding through their eyes. The door opened, and they walked out. They reached a hand out to me. I was lifting my arm, when I passed out from exhaustion.
I woke hours later, feeling sore, sad, and very tired. But, I felt warmth, and I felt like there was lots of room around me. I opened my eyes. And for the first time, in my whole life, I saw something I'd never forget.
Sunlight.
