CHAPTER 3: Ashfire's Rival

"Hey Sugarpaw!" Cloudpaw said happily. "Do you think Ashfire hates me now?" I said. "Most likely. After all you did give him a scar that he won't forget, and also because you spoiled his good looks." said Cloudpaw. Leopardpaw saw that I was bleeding. "I think you should go to the medicine cat's den. Your bleeding a lot." said Leopardpaw. I limped over to the medicine cat's den.

"Ashfire shook you up good, huh?" said Stormfur. "Yeah."I said. "Here this will stop your bleeding." said Stormfur. "Ouch!"I yelped. "What is that?"I said. "It's blackberry leaves."Stormfur said as she chewed more. "Here you go." Stormfur said as she rapped cobwebs around my wound. "Don't move and you'll be fine."Stormfur said.

The next day I was fine. Stormfur said that I might have a scar on my shoulder where Ashfire had scratched me. I still had cobweb around my wound, I still had a limp. I saw Ashfire while I was walking to my den. He was glaring at me. "Sorry about the ear." I said. "Leave me alone." said Ashfire. I limped back off to my den, when I got there I saw Cloudpaw and Leopardpaw. "Hey dude have you ever tasted a mouse before?"Said Cloudpaw. "No."I said. I bent down to try it, I was so amazed by how good it was. I mean like it was better than tuna open fresh from the can. "Dude save us some!" said Leopardpaw. "Sorry, but it's so good." I said happily.

"Clan meeting!" Gracestar mewed. Everyone was addressed to the highrock. "Today we will be choosing a mentor for Sugarpaw." said Gracestar. All the warriors stood proud except for one. Ashfire obviously didn't want me to be his apprentice. "Ashfire. You will be Sugarpaw's mentor, do you accept."said Gracestar. "Yes I accept."Ashfire said. At least I get to train with Cloudpaw now.

"So your my new apprentice."said Ashfire. "Yeah, I guess so." I said. "You guys should get some sleep, after all you do start training at sunhigh tomorrow."Ashfire said to me and Cloudpaw. We padded back off to our den. "Hey guys." Me and Cloudpaw said at the same time. "Hey Sugarpaw. Hey Cloudpaw." Said Leopardpaw. "Shh! I trying to sleep." yelled Redpaw. "Sorry." I whispered.

"Guys wake up!" I yelled. I shook them, I pushed them, and I shoved them, but they didn't wake up. After a few minutes they woke up. "Dude what do you want?" said Cloudpaw sleepily. "Look outside."I said. We saw 3 cats from Stormclan. "We have to tell Gracestar!" whispered Cloudpaw. We padded across the camp to the leader's den."Gracestar!"we whispered as we shook her. "Yes my dears."said Gracestar. "There are 3 Stormclan warrior here." we said together. Gracestar's face lit up with fear. She called all the warriors. The Stormclan warriors tried to flee, but the warriors got there just in time. "Why are you here!" Gracestar said. "Our leader Leafstar told us to steal your apprentices."said one of the warriors from Stormclan. "Leave and tell your leader that you can't take our apprentices no matter what, or face the consequences!"said Gracestar. "Okay Okay! We'll leave. This isn't over yet!"said the two Stormclan warriors as the padded back off into the woods.

In the morning we started our training. "Is this right Ashfire?" I said as I crouched down. "Yeah, your better than I thought." said Ashfire sarcastically. "Wait can you swim?" Ashfire said. "No." I said. "Good." He said suspiciously. In a flash he pushed me in the water. "I am on my way to become deputy and I don't need you to get in the way of it." Ashfire said. "Why pick on me then!"I said as I struggled to get out of the water. "Because Gracestar told all the warriors that she is going to give you guys your warrior names, and you might become the deputy instead of me." Ashfire said. "Ashfire this is stupid I'm not even a warrior yet!" I yelled. "Whatever!"Ashfire said as he walked away.

"Help!"I yelled. Cloudpaw came padding towards me. "Whoa! Who pushed you in here!"said Cloudpaw. "Ashfire."I yelled. "Why?"said Cloudpaw as she pulled me out. "He's afraid that I'll be deputy instead of him."I said as I coughed up water. "That's stupid. Lets get back to camp." Cloudpaw said. Once we got back to camp we ate some fresh kill then we went to tell Gracestar what had happened. She said that she will try and fix this.
