(Accelerator's POV)
Esper examinations: the worst thing that could possibly happen right now. Yomikawa just had to put me back in school in time for them.
It wasn't like I wasn't used to being examined by scientists and doctors all the time, but in my current condition, being ranked down to a mere level four was highly possible, and I hated it. I hated being weak.
Being put here with all these weaklings was already bad enough, but even just thinking about being classified as one of them...was way worse.
"Class, it's time for your esper exams, please go to your perspective exam rooms, and Reikozawa, AIM diffusion field and esper ability check is in class 3-B-4 on the fifth floor." The daycare kid teacher said. "And Accelerator, the check-ups for special abilities are in class 2-C-5 on the second floor and then you will proceed to the psychological exams, then the gymnasium, and then the pool afterwards. You will be accompanied by Miss Tatsukawa Konari over there." The daycare kid teacher pointed to a girl with black hair and a green eye. Her left eye was covered by a medical eyepatch.
Everyone stood up to leave, and the girl walked over to me.
"Accelerator, please follow me." She said in a monotone voice and started walking. I followed closely behind. She led me to a room on the fifth floor. "This is your room for the check-ups. I will be in the other room since male and female exams are separate. See you later."I entered the room and a doctor led me to a cubicle covered by curtains with scanners and monitors.
"Hello, I am doctor Nozaki Furukawa. Let's start, shall we?" The doctor said. "Do you have any bone fractures or dislocations?"
"No."
"Okay then, do you have any anomalies, like a rare blood type or a bump on the head or anything?"
"Tch. No."
"Any hereditary illnesses I should know of?"
"I wouldn't be here if I was sick."
"Do you feel any pain at all right now?"
"Well this exam is a pain in the ass, does that count?" I said rhetorically and the doctor started laughing.
"No. I'll take your physical condition status now. Please stand still." He said and then I was covered in green light. "Okay, it's done, let's see here...Oh, my." He looked at the monitor.
"What?"
"It seems that you are slightly underweight."
"I know that already."
"Oh, okay, well other than that, there are no problems with your physical status." Now, please sit down, I have to check the condition of your nervous system now." I sat down and the doctor put something in my ear. "There have been a few damages, I suppose it has to do with being, well, shot in the head..." The doctor tread carefully, trying not to piss me off even more. "But there seems to be no damages whatsoever to the calculating abilities. Why do you use an electrode?"
"It's the only reason why I can even think properly right now, why I can answer your questions." I said. "Did you really think someone could get shot in the head and still walk away with their ability intact without support?"
"Well, I don't know how but, it seems to have completely healed." The doctor said nervously. "Maybe it has something to do with your esper ability?"
"I'm telling you now that it's impossible before you even get your hopes up." I replied, annoyed. "My ability's no miracle cure. Using it to try and heal would just make matters worse."
"Well, you're dismissed." The doctor said quickly, trying to get rid of me before I finally snapped and killed him. "The psychological exams are on the floor above, class 2-B-3."
I left the room and walked up the stairs. This is a pain in the ass.
After the several, annoying, waste-of-time psychological exams, I went down to the gymnasium. I saw the girl with the eyepatch. I leaned against a wall until the instructor finally came.
"Okay, students, please line up." The instructor said and I followed. I was fourth in line behind the girl with the eyepatch since there were only about ten of us there.
"Okay, then, when you walk to your training boards cite your name, year, section, current rank, the name of your esper power, and what it can do. Release your full esper power on your chosen training board or empty space when I give you the permission to proceed, then those who have been ranked as a level four or level five will proceed to the pool." The instructor said. "Now go, one by one." The guy that was at the front of the line walked over to a wooden training board.
"Hiwatari Raito, sir. A third year from section 3-A-2." The guy said. " Level 4. The name of my esper ability is pierce. It creates a portal in any type of liquid or solid within a one meter radius by morphing it's structure and an altered form of move point, sir."
"Proceed."
The guy made a pushing motion, not touching the board, then a large gaping hole appeared in the middle, showing the outside of the gym. Not very impressive.
"Raito Hiwatari, esper ability rank: level four. Please proceed to the swimming pool." The instructor said, boredly as he scribbled down something on his paper. "Next." A guy walked over to a metal training board.
"I am Mitsuko Kazuki, a second year from section 2-B-4. A level two. My esper ability is called touch burn." He said. "Touch burn burns everything I touch and makes it fragile, but does not melt it and leaves a mark on it."
"Proceed."
The guy made a line across the board and then flicked it. It broke. Boring.
"Kazuki Mitsuko, esper ability rank raised to level three, please head back to your classroom. Next." The girl with the eyepatch walked up to a wooden board.
"I am Tatsukawa Konari from second year section 2-A-1. Current rank: sixth level five." The girl said. Haa? She's a level five? "The name of my esper ability is Extase, and it is an esper ability that allows me to control, create, dissipate, or reform metal."
"Oh? Interesting. Proceed."
Armor grew on her body and two silvery metal wings formed on her back, releasing detached metal shards that effectively cut through the board then returned to the wings.
She stopped and all the metal that she created disappeared into thin air. I'd seen that before...
"Konari Tatsukawa, esper ability rank: level five." The man said with wide eyes. "Proceed to the swimming pool. Next." I walked over to a titanium board.
"Oh, you've got some guts picking the titanium board." The instructor mocked.
"Tch. I'm Accelerator, second year, 2-A-1, number one level five." I glared and the instructor gulped with wide eyes. "Esper ability: Vector Transformation, it does what the name suggests."
"P-please proceed, mister Accelerator."
I touched the board and sent it flying, and when it crashed into a wall, you could barely even tell that it was ever a board, and it cracked the wall, making it entirely give out a few seconds later. The instructor gulped again.
"A-Accelerator, esper ability r-rank: l-level five..." The instructor stuttered and sweated as I glared at him. "P-please proceed to t-the s-swimming pool."
I walked away and realized...I never switched on my electrode, but I was still able to use vector transformation.
Tch. maybe that dumbass doctor wasn't a complete dumbass after all.
I walked out of the gym, feeling like I was being watched...
