"Hello students." Mr Leads eyes scanned our class falling on Sin "you must be Sin. Interesting name. This is combat class as you have probably worked out. Since your new here I'm guessing you haven't seen a Partial in person?"
"Not yet. Though I'm sure I will eventually." His voice was bold and strong. Unlike my voice which sounded like glass.
"Do you want too?" Sin paused before answering. That was a stupid question, who would want to see a Partial if they had the choice?
"Yes." He stated finally.
"Raven." He said moving his gaze to me "you know the drill. Get into the ring." I gently twisted my way through the crowd, careful not to hit anybody, and and walked around the tall mesh fenced arena. When I reached the gate, I undid the latch and stepped through into the arena. The arena was fairly big. About the size of two basketball courts put together and shaped into a circle. It was surrounded with a big 10metre high mesh fence. Not to keep people out, but Partials in. At the other end of the arena was a large metal gate with about twenty Partials in it. They had some machine thing that made sure only one partial got out at a time, and that was only if you clicked a special button on a remote that only the teacher possessed.
"what weapon?" He asked me.
"My knife." I always brought a weapon to PFE, as I had to walk to school and that was the only way to ensure safety. I had to hand it in when I reached the school gates though. They made you walk through big metal detectors, then took all your weapons off you. Just to make sure no fights broke out. We didn't need the weapons. The school was heavily guarded. We were safe. I reached out my hand. Mr Lead dug through the box of weapons at his feet looking for my particular one. I could of picked any weapon. A gun, a sword, anything. A knife isn't one of the best weapon choices when fighting a Partial but I was feeling like a challenge. He threw the knife at me and I caught it easily. I glanced at the weapon briefly. It was pretty awesome really. It had had a silver sharp stainless steel blade about the size of my palm, the handle was black with silver lines, at the top of the knife was a silver skull with red gems as eyes. Mr Lead began talking to Sin "look closely. She is our most skilled students, you're about to watch a master at work." He yelled out to me "ready?"
"Yup!" I yelled back. It was a warm day and the sun was shining brightly, it was one of the warmest days we have had this winter. A calm breeze was blowing gently making the sandy ground move as if I was standing on the ocean. I heard the click and the big steel door across me make a grinding noise as the door opened. I saw it standing there straight away. It was deep in the back hiding in the shadows. If it was dark it would have charged at me straight away but the sun made it weary. The sun doesn't harm them in anyway but its almost as if they are afraid of it. The Partial took a step closer to me flicking glances between me and the bright sky. God it was ugly looking. It's movements were stiff and its nails were longer and sharper looking than most other Partials, I could tell right away it was old. Older partials were less dangerous, more slow and worn out, though they were more sneaky and had longer nails. Not many other people would be able to tell the difference, but as you know, I've grown up learning about these things. I moved my legs apart so I was in my defence stance. The air fell silent briefly before the beast let out its war cry. It echoed through the air. It just stood there for about a second looking at me then it charged. I stood there not moving as it charged with its ugly black nails extended. I heard its feet thudding towards me. Waiting, waiting. I spun to the left at the last second, catching the Partial off guard. It stumbled through the place I was standing and fell forward, I quickly spun around it before it could even regain its balance, and kicked it as hard as I possibly could in the spine. It screeched and fell forward onto its face. I lifted up my knife quickly and threw it down on its back in the place where its heart was. There was a brief hard entrance then the knife slid smoother as I dug through rotting skin. I had to push down with more force as I pierced through the insides and cut open the heart. I knew I had gone deep enough when the Partial stopped struggling. I pulled out my knife and extended my crouched body. I looked through the fence at the other students in my class. Mr Lead looked impressed.
"Nice work Raven."
"Thank you." My gaze shifted over to Sin. His lips were turned up slightly at the edges.
"So Sin, you think you could do that?" Mr Lead asked
"I could try. I would fail" laughter "but I could try."
"Failing isn't an option anymore. In this world you must learn to fight, or die."
