Sin lead me to an isolated park. I kind of felt like we shouldn't even be here, like it's supposed to be condemned or something. The park looked out of place, as it was in the centre of a large lush field. We had found a nice spot on the grass and were lying down looking up at the sky. Sin was lying upside down to me and we both had our heads next to each other. We were dry now and Sin had his top back on. The field was silent except for the gentle chirping of the sparrows and the soft swishing sound of the grass moving in the wind. I was utterly relaxed.
"Why'd you come here?" I asked
"Where?"
"This school."
"I didn't have a choice. I had nowhere else to go. My parents were taken last year in their sleep. I lived alone and was terrified. I didn't want to live in fear anymore. I had a look for PFE's in Australia but there wasn't any that seemed as good as this one. Apparently its the best in the world. So I used some of my parents money, flew here and signed up for training."
"I'm sorry about your parents."
"It's ok. They weren't very good ones anyway." I turned my head and took a long hard look at Sin. Not him on the outside but I tried to see inside. Tried to see past the confident outer surface to the scarred, broken, alone boy. I had a deep sense of curiosity about his eyes. What colour where they? I reached my hand towards his hair. I went to brush it out of the way but he grabbed my hand stopping me.
"What?" I asked.
"Don't." He said quietly as if he was scared what was under his hair. I was curious, but didn't pry. Instead I simply moved my hand away from his forehead.
"Sorry."
"Its ok. This is nice ae?"
"The field?"
"No, relaxing. I can tell you're busy, don't usually have time just to chill."
"How'd you know." He looked back up at the sky.
"You look tired. You were late for school. Your really smart on the subject of Partials, you have mean fighting skills. I'm guessing you train a lot."
"Yeah. I can't remember the last time I just lay down and looked at the sky. No particular purpose just for-" I paused "me."
"Well maybe we should do this more often."
"Sounds good. I already know everything we are learning at the PFE anyway."
"Cool. Hey, you wanna come over?"
"What, to your house?"
"Well yeah." I was slightly shocked. I had never been asked out anywhere since Shanelle was taken.
"Ok." He moved his head back to face mine and my heart stopped for a second. I thought he was going to kiss me. Instead he just smiled
