Chapter 11- the rightful king
Kopa rested in the cave that night, and there was nothing that Kovu could say that would convince Simba to kick him out. It was early the following morning that Simba approached his son and asked him to come for a walk with him.
They went through the sun splashed Savannah, and even the most ignorant of animals knew that Kopa had returned. Simba sat with Kopa under a shady tree tree and looked at him for a while.
"Where have you been all this time?" Demanded Simba.
"Trying to find my way back. Zira took me to a village, near where humans live!" He told Simba.
Simba looked shocked.
"I had a wife there, even a litter of cubs, but they are grown up now." Said Kopa.
"And when I am king of pride rock, I am going to bring my wife here." He added.
"Kopa, I hate to tell you this, but when I pass down my throne, it will go to Kiara, and of course Kovu. And I plan to pass it down as soon as the war is over." Sighed Simba, shaking his head.
"But that is not right! The throne goes to the oldest cub!" Said Kopa, annoyed.
"I can't pass the throne onto someone who is dead..." Simba trailed off
"But I'm not dead." Reminded Kopa
"Which means... your the rightful king!" Realised Simba.
" I have to go and tell the pride." Said Simba, as he turned towards pride rock, to break the news.
He called his pride of lionesses together, and they sat in a semi-circle, around Simba.
"It has occurred to me that, in our hour of excitement, we forgot something. And only after a short talk have I realised. This may upset some of you, but I must go by the rules of the pride. When I pass down my throne, it will go to Kopa, as my oldest child.
hey all gasped. Sure, they had missed Kopa , but they looked at the heavily pregnant Kiara, burying her head into Kovu's chest, and were immediately shocked at how Simba could do such a thing. How could Simba trust him?
That was when zazu swept in from lookout duties.
"Sire, pride nguvu is on the move!" Yelled zazu.
"Assemble all of the army!" Roared Simba.
Chapter 10- off to war
The army was assembled in 5 minutes, verging on the edge of 800 strong. No-one would be left behind, even Kiara, who had only a week or less pregnancy to go, had to make the 6 hour March to pride Nguvu, that even Simba hadn't seen yet. It hurt the paws of all of them, and when they could they ran, so that they arrived in only 5 hours. Simba sent Kiara to the back, and Kovu to accompany her. That way, Simba thought, at least they might get away with minimal fighting. And then Simba reached the top of the hill overlooking their pridelands. And for as far as he could see, were lions in lines, ready for war. He heard a deep loud roar from who must be the king. But he was too far to see. Simba peered at his army, rearing to fight, and Kopa next to him, ready to charge. Simba took a deep breath, and roared as loud as he could. Seconds later, the opposing army began to run.
"Charge!" Yelled Simba, and they raced to meet the Nguvu pride fighters. As they got closer, Simba's pride heard
"For the death of the princess and her brother!" Simba was confused. Who killed the price then? But he had no time think, for the prides clashed. It was clear to Simba that his pride was outnumbered. By 3 to 1 easily. But they battled hard and both teams blood was split, when Simba was grabbed around the throat by the King of Pride Nguvu. He was an impressive king, his fur was beige, and his mane was mainly a little darker. At least he would have his life taken for a worthwhile cause. his vision faded and his chest ached, as he fell into a world of blackness.
"No!" Screamed Kovu so loudly that everyone stopped in fear. Kovu charged at the King and knocked him onto his back, his paw on the Kings throat, a lioness pounced, followed by others, but with his last breath, the king yelled
"No! Don't hurt him!" Which shocked Kovu so much that he stumbled back, releasing the king.
"Why haven't you finished him!" Yelled Simba angrily, as Kiara pushed her way forwards to Kovu, and the king stood shaking off.
"It can't be" the king whispered. Kovu cocked his head.
"My... My son?" The king asked.
"No... how can I be? I am Zira's son... I mean, I'm not actually born to her, I don't know who my parents are but... how could you be my dad...I mean?" Rushed Kovu, confused.
That's when the Queen of pride Nguvu came. She looked like a female version of Kovu, thought Kiara.
"Bwana?" She whispered.
"Mshindi?" She asked the king.
"Is it him, Mshindi? Is it our son Bwana?" She asked, hope in her voice.
"Let me see your belly, boy." Demanded Mshindi, king of pride Nguvu. He showed him is belly, where there was a scar across it, faint but visible.
"It is! It's Bwana our son!" The king yelled, as they both, the king and queen, embraced Kovu.
"I think some explanation may be in order." Suggested zazu, landing near Simba.
