Chapter Seventeen

Hanna's POV

"What do you think this is about?" I asked Jax. Garrett told us to meet Carter in his office. I was locking up my apartment when he sent me the message.

"I don't know and I'm third in command. Must be important though," Jax said. "Even Gran has to come."

"Are we in trouble?" I asked him.

"I don't know Han. I'll see you soon," and with that Jax hung up.

He's such a nice brother. So kind and everything.

"Hey Max, Annabella," I called out once I got out of the car.

Both turned around I sent them a wave. I ran up to them. Once I got close I noticed them holding hands. Aw.

"Hey. What are you guys doing here?" I asked them as we walked closer to the building. 

"Max needs to get some papers," Annabella explained. Max opened the door and held it open for me and Annabella.

"Ah. I'm meeting Carter," I told them. Max raised his eyebrows at me and Annabella looked confused.

"Not like that," I said quickly causing Max to break out into a grin.

"Uh huh."

"Really Max," I said. He just shook his head. Annabella slapped his shoulder jokingly. We got into the elevator. Max pressed for floor 6 and I pressed for floor 10. (the building has 10 floors.)

Max leaned close to Annabella and whispered something causing her to giggle. She stood on her tippy toes and pecked his lips. 

He moved his hands to tickle her a little. She bursted into  fits of laughter. I was a little uncomfortable to be seeing such an intimate moment between the pair. But I was happy for them. They deserve each other. 

The elevator stopped in their floor. "But," Annabella said to me. I smiled and nodded. "Later."

The pair disappeared behind the silver doors.

"Hey sweet pea," Gran smiled when she saw me.

"Hey Gran."

I could see my parents in the corner of my eye. I paid them no attention as I hugged Jax.

Carter poked his head out of his office. 

"Come on in," everyone stood up and went in his office. 

It was very large. The desk was big with surprisingly neat organization.

Gran sat in one chair and mom in the other. Jax, Dad, and I stood behind them.

"So... We need to talk about something," Carter trailed off. 

"Look. Alexa didn't show up to the meeting the other day and we sent some guards out to look for her. We can't find her. Your daughter is now missing," Carter said. 

Mom started letting out very loud sobs and rocking herself back and forth. Dad patted her back while the rest of us stared at her like she was nuts.

"I'm so sorry Mrs-"

"No your not!" mom looked up and yelled at Carter.

"You are not sorry. This is your fault. And Yours!" She yelled and looked me in the eyes.

"You stole Carter from your sister!"

Carter slammed his hand on the desk. Everyone jumped. I was surprised the desk didn't break from contact.

"I am your alpha! YOU have NO right to disrespect me!" Carter growled.

"Your daughter is missing and we do have people looking for her. Focus on that. Now get out of my office NOW."

I was the last one to leave the room. Before I did I looked back at Carter.

"Sorry about my mom."

Carter nodded. "I understand she's just worried."

He gave me a sad smile and I shut his office quietly.
