‘So Aarons a flirt.’ Katy stated as all four of us sat spread out on my bedroom floor.

‘We could use it to our advantage’ Roxie imputed

‘How? ‘I asked confused

‘Well dumby, he wouldn’t flirt with you if he wasn’t attracted to you, would he?’

‘Oh’ I said blushing, the thought of anyone as gorgeous as Aaron Mackenzie finding someone like me attractive sounded a little ludicrous in my eyes.

‘You need to get him wrapped around your little finger’ Katy mused

‘How?’ I asked again.

‘Easy, you need to keep him on his toes, be flirty but mysterious, a little distant even’

‘Yeah, you need to be easy, but hard to get all at the same time’

‘Then, once you have him, we can get Mason on the football team, then sabotage Aaron from within’ Katy cried, slightly hysterical

I let off a nervous laugh.

‘So’ Roxie added ‘Phase one, get Aaron Mackenzie’.

Dakota had rang a little later asking if I could come by tomorrow as an extra shift, I wanted to decline but my friends were silently screaming threats at me. So I agreed, I guess there was no better time to start ‘phase one’.

‘Pool’ he said again.

‘No, Adam, maybe another day’ I sighed.

‘Pool’ he repeated

‘Urgh fine’ I gave in, he had been nagging me to go swimming since I arrived, I gave in before I had a proper mental breakdown.

I got Adam ready and took him over to the pool; he amused himself splashing around pretending be a shark, or whatever kids do these days. I was stood at the edge watching him, what I would give be that age again, not a worry in the world.

‘Having fun’ the voice came from close behind startling me, I whirled around but lost my footing, sending me face first into the water.  

Adam and Aaron (who was stood by the edge) burst into laughter.

‘Anyone ever tell you that you’re clumsy’

‘Only a few times ‘I huffed, dragging myself out of the pool, too annoyed to be embarrassed. 

‘I’m off to dry off’ I added ‘Can you watch Adam?’

‘Sure’ he smiled ‘You know you look good in the pool’ he winked

‘Katie Saunders is having a pool party next week’ he added.

I paused, how was this relevant to anything.

‘You should come’ he shrugged

My mouth hung open, I stood gaping at him.

He chuckled ‘Oh and Zoe, your shirts see-through’

I gasped, hugging my arms to my chest before turning around and stomping into the house.

I wondered around the downstairs looking for a towel, all I found was a stack  of tea towels in the kitchen. Meh I thought, this was better than nothing, I picked one up and started dabbing my hair.
