"How did you get an A on the test?" Asked Emma who had my test clutched in her hands.
"I don't know." I answered.
"Well it looks like to me that you want to get good grades." She said throwing it into the trash bin as we passed it.
"I don't care about grades that's stupid." I snorted flipping my hair.
"Whatever Natalie."
She said taking her phone out of her purse.
"OMG what!?" She yelled.
"What?" I ask.
She scoffs and types on her phone for a second then turns to me. "Did you see that new kid today?" She asked. "
Um no." I replied.
It was true I hadn't seen the new kid. "Good." She said."Because Katelin saw you talking to him yesterday."
Oh no. I was hanging out with him. He's a nice kid but my friends don't think that. His name's Jacob and he's the schools nerd.
"No I was just getting my homework I made him do." I said.
"Oh because he's a complete nerd and if you were actually hanging out with him we couldn't be friends." She smacked on her gum and flipped her hair.
I laughed. "Hang out with him? No way."
She giggled. "Good!" She exclaimed.
That was close I thought opening the front door to my house. I was the only one home as always because my father worked and my brother recently moved out. I looked down at my phone to see a new text from him.
What are you doing? -Jacob.
Nothing why? -Natalie.
Park? -Jacob.
Friends almost found out can't -Natalie
So we can't be friends anymore? -Jacob
I didn't reply and slipped my phone in my purse. I sighed and I untied my shoes and put them next to the door. My phone buzzed again but I ignored it. I couldn't talk to him right now. I have known My best friends Emma and Katelin since kindergarten I can't leave them now. My eyes drifted to the TV which I must have left on this morning. I grabbed the remote and shut it off. I took off my pink backpack Emma made me buy and took out my homework. This was my favorite part of the day. Doing homework. Emma would hate me if she knew though. They would leave me and find another girl to be friends with. I loved being popular but I love school. This is impossible. Phone buzzed again and I took it out.
Nat? -Jacob
Nat please answer -Jacob.
Nat come on-Jacob
Just come over -Natalie
Yes!- Jacob.
I chuckled as I put my phone in the back pocket of my jeans. Me and Jacob have been hanging for over a month. We have a lot in common and he's a good friend.
Ten minutes later Jacob walked in. I laughed because I told him he can just come in whenever he came over.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey." I replied.
"How'd your friends find out?" He asked flopping on the couch beside me.
"Katelin saw us." I answered scrolling through my phone.
"oh." Is all he said. "Why don't you stop being friends with them?" He asks.
"Because being popular is the best thing ever!" I yelled.
He froze. "Sorry." He whispered.
"No i'm sorry I shouldn't have yelled it's just They're my best friends." I said.
He stood up. "No it's fine I get it you invited me over to tell me to leave you alone so I will." He opened the door. "
Wait Jacob!" I yelled running after him.
Rain poured down on me. Great it's raining I'm going to the movies later and now I have to fix my hair.
"Jacob please you are the greatest friend I've ever had!" I said grabbing his arm before he could go any further.
"Then why don't you just leave your mean other ones?" He asked turning around.
"It's not that easy!" I said.
"Then we can't be friends." He shoved his hands in his pockets and got in his car. I watched him as he drove away.
The car honked. "Come on Natalie! Let's go or we'll leave you!" Emma yelled.
I ran outside and jumped in the car. Emma drove I sat in the passenger seat and Katelin sat in the back like always.
"What took you so long?" Katelin asked.
I turned around and looked at her. "Hair." I replied.
"Same!" Exclaimed Emma. "The stupid rain ruins my beautiful curls!" She said running her fingers through her hair.
I couldn't stop thinking about Jacob. I lost him as a friend because of them. Why can't Emma and Katelin let me have other friends. Jacob was a good friend. I wanted to cry but they can't see me cry. I only seen Emma cry once when she lost her favorite lip gloss and had to use another one.
Emma pulled up to the movies and we ran in to not ruin our hair.
I didn't pay any attention to the movie in front of me. All I could think about was Jacob. I miss him I wish we could be friends but we can't. What about tomorrow at school what if we pass each other in the hall what would we say? Ugh! This it impossible. I just need to be friends with Jacob. I made a decision that after the movie I would tell them.
"Oh my gosh that movie was so good!" Exclaimed Katelin as we got in the car.
"That sucked." Snarled Emma.
"Oh." Katelin said.
We sat in silence until we pulled up to my house.
"Guys." I said.
"Yeah?" Emma said scrolling through her phone.
"You know earlier when you said I was hanging out with that new kid?" I said.
Emma nodded. "Yep." She said not looking up.
"Well I am." I said.
"WHAT!?" Emma shrieked.
"Uh yeah." I squeaked.
"Get out of my car we're not friends anymore!" She yelled.
I got out of the car and her car zoomed away. Tears stung my eyes. I pulled out my phone.
I did it -Natalie
