I sprinted to my car looking back only once to see Jacob with tears in his eyes. I got in the car panting and zoomed off. Tears poured down my face the whole drive. Mt phone buzzed many times but I decided to turn it off because I couldn't take it anymore. I pulled in the driveway and carefully climbed the front steps. I opened the door and froze when it made a creaking noise. When everything was still I opened the door all the way and cautiously shut it. I tip toed up the stairs being extra quiet while passing my dads room. When I finally made it back to my room I flopped on my bed and sobbed quietly. My alarm clock read 11:39 in red lights.

I woke up to my alarm piercing the quietness in my room. I haven't slept a wink the entire night. I looked in the mirror. My puffy red eyes stood out. My nose was plugged from crying all night too. I sighed as I grabbed my makeup to cover the dark bags under my eyes. After my makeup was complete, I put on some bright purple jeans with my huge purple sweater my brother got me last Christmas when he visited with his girlfriend. He accidentally bought the wrong size but I kept it anyway because it kept me warm and cozy.

I turned my phone back on and ignored the texts from Jacob. I'll be seeing him at school anyway. Maybe I could avoid him but that will be difficult. Jacob's not an easy person to avoid. I guess i'll have to face him and tell him I like him back but don't want to hurt him. I plopped my phone in my bag and walked out the door.

I pulled to sleeves of my sweater over my hands and snuggled with the warmth. The fresh snow crunched under my feet with each step. I watched as a squirrel scampered across the street in front of me then climbed a tree. I continued my journey to school where I would have to face Jacob.

He waited by my locker so I couldn't miss him. I took a deep breath as I walked over.

"Hey." I said.

opening my locker and shoving everything inside and quickly grabbing my books. I slammed the locker and turned around to walk away but he grabbed my arm.

"Meet me at lunch we need to talk." He whispered in my ear them walked away.

I stood there for a few seconds then walked to class.

I scribbled down notes in class but ended up doodling. I drew the two tigers from the other picture. After I stared at it. "Mrs. Grey." Mrs.bates said. "Please tell us what you got for number five for yesterdays homework."

I looked up and froze as the class turned to me. Crap! I thought. I didn't do it after I talked to my father I completely forgot.

"Um......I-I." I stuttered trying to come up with an excuse.

"Mrs. Grey this is the first homework assignment you didn't do so i'll give you an extra day to get it to me." She said.

I sighed in relief as she continued. Mrs. Bates was my favorite teacher and I was her favorite student.

I wanted to skip lunch so I didn't have to see Jacob but I forced myself to sit down.

"Why don't you have lunch?" He asked.

"Not hungry." I replied.

"Great now i'm making you not eat." He muttered.

"Jacob.." I said making him look up at me.

"I have feelings for you too but..." I trailed off.

"But what? Am I not good enough?" He said.

"No!" I replied quickly. "I just don't want to hurt you like I've done with guys in the past.."

After a few seconds of silence I stood up and walked away.

I swung open my locker, grabbed my stuff, and sprinted down the empty hall. Since I didn't bring my car today I had to walk home. I texted my father that i'm going home because I don't feel good but he knew I was lying because he replied with.

 Have fun! -Dad.

I walked into the house and slipped off my snow covered boots. I walked up the stairs and flopped on the couch. Tears poured down my eyes as I turned on the TV. I sobbed watching.

Around three in the afternoon there was a knock on my door. I jogged down the stairs and swung it open forgetting that I had tears on my cheeks. Jacob stood there and watched the tears slid down.

"Natalie.." He whispered.

He never said my full name like that before.

"Jacob just go before I hurt you even more." I sob.

"No Nat! I know you were friends with Emma and she changed you but I saw the real you and I wont let that person go." He said.

I pulled him into a hug and sobbed on his shoulder. "My dad had a girlfriend for weeks and hasn't told me until last night." I whispered in his ear.

He pulled back and looked me in the eyes. "I'm here for you." He whispered.

"No please just go.." I whisper.

"Fine. but I will never forget my feelings for you." He said. "Me either Jacob, me either.."

I was standing in my room when my father texted that his girlfriend Katherine is coming over for dinner. What do I wear? Something casual or something nice? Before I could figure out what to wear the front door opens.

"Nat come down here!" My father yells.

I look down and my clothes and sigh. My huge purple sweater might not be the best thing to wear but I got no time so I run downstairs. Katherine has long light brown hair and bright blue eyes. Her smile is warming and caring. She's wearing a long black shirt with black lace on the bottom and she wears black leggings. I walk over to shake her hand.

"Nice to meet you Natalie." She says as she shakes my hand.

I smile. "Nice to meet you too." I reply.

My father brings the bag of food to the kitchen. I smile at Katherine while my father pulls out some wine for her and Katherine. He then gives me a soda and I laugh. Katherine giggles. My eyes shift to my father as he pulls out tacos from the bag.

My father and Katherine sit on the couch laughing when I come out.

"I'm going to bed goodnight." I smile.

"Oh wait honey." She says. "I would like to talk to you." She smiles.

I gesture up the stairs and she follows me. When I close the door she starts to speak.

"Natalie i'm sorry your father didn't tell you about us I tried to tell him-.." I cute her off.

"That's fine I understand." I say sitting on my bed.

"I just don't want you to think i'm replacing your mother okay?" She says sitting next to me.

"Like I told him it's been two years he can move on." I say.

She nods. "Well it was nice meeting you Natalie." She says standing up. "Call me Nat."
