Fire

"JODIE! JODIE, WAKE UP!" A voice shouted from what sounded like miles away. Jodie didn't wake up. The shouting was followed by a banging, but she still remained asleep. What eventually woke her up was what sounded like her door being smashed in and the sound of footsteps, sprinting towards her. Jodie's eyes flickered open, but all she could see was a blanket of smoke coating the room and a mysterious shadow emerging from the grey. The shadow swept her out of bed and ran out of the room, carrying her in its arms. Jodie felt like her lungs had shrivelled up in her chest because she could barely breathe.

The shadow shot out of the building and it was only as the cold wind blew in her face that Jodie realised how hot the inside of the building had been. It was practically an oven in there!

Jodie felt like she was still dreaming, because all the sounds she could hear jumbled into a mess and she could only see blurs of colour. She felt a dizziness like no other and so horribly nauseous she thought she would throw up any second.

She wanted to ask what had happened, but instead she coughed and fell unconscious.

When she woke up, Jodie found herself sitting in the back of an ambulance, wearing a tightly fitted oxygen mask, a blanket on her shoulders and somebody holding her limp hand. She looked up and saw that the hotel was burnt black and half destroyed, the twinkling stars of the night sky barely visible through the slowly disappearing smoke.

"Oh, thank God you're awake, Jodie!" Chris' voice came from next to her. She looked and saw that it was him who was holding her hand, "Are you alright?"

Jodie went to speak, but due to the mask she could only nod slowly with a look of confusion painted in her hazel eyes. Seeing this look, Chris began to explain what had happened.

"We aren't sure how, but a fire started in one of the rooms and set the whole place on fire. Luckily Knoxville came and woke us all up otherwise we'd have all been killed!"

"Yeah," Ryan said as he walked over to them, "And you didn't wake up, Jodie, so Chris kicked down your door and saved your life! Are you okay?"

Jodie nodded again.

"I just came over to tell you that the fireman said you can take the mask off now if you like, they only put it on you because your room was really close to where to fire started." Ryan told her.

Jodie peeled off the mask and instantly asked where the other guys were.

"They're just helping out with makin' sure everybody got out of the hotel alright, I'm gonna go help 'em out." Explained Ryan, before rushing away to help out.

"Did you really save my life?" Jodie wheezed to Chris, her voice lightly hoarse from the smoke.

"Well, I guess you could say that. I got really worried when you didn't come out of your room and I thought something awful had happened to you..." Chris murmured, smiling at her. Jodie smiled back and responded by leaning over and hugging him, loving him more than ever and never wanting to let him go.

"Thank you..." She whispered as they held each other tightly, "Thank you so much..."
