Chapter Twelve - Hanging With My Other Friends
The weekend rolled around and I thought I was going to chill and keep to myself, but apparently Sam had other plans for me. She wanted me to come over her house and spend the night—with two of our other friends, Cydney and Alaysha. Cydney and Alaysha were great and all, but I really wanted to be alone. I hadn't had anytime to myself since I joined The Buddy Club and alone time was valuable to me. It calmed me down and got my mind in the right sense of place again. I didn't have to worry about mine or anyone else's problems, I could just relax. I could blow them off and say I was sick or something, but I knew Sam and I knew that she wouldn't believe me. Cydney and Alaysha would believe me because they didn't know me like Sam did.
So, without much internal conflict, I packed an overnight bag, after asking my mama if I could spend the night at Sam's house. She told me that I could and dropped me off about thirty minutes later.

"Yay, now we can get this party started!" Sam squealed as she opened the front door.
"Yes, the party has arrived." I sarcastically said, nodding my head.
I really didn't want to be here right now.
Was it showing?
"Cydney and Alaysha are in the basement. We were just about to start a scary movie marathon and I was about to make popcorn, but then I saw your mom's car outside."
"Alright, I'ma put my bag in your room and then go downstairs." I nodded my head and didn't wait for her to respond as I walked upstairs to her room.
As soon as I stepped into her room I knew exactly why she didn't have them up here. The girl had clothes everywhere and it looked like a pig sty, thankfully it didn't smell like one. It smelled of vanilla and cinnamon—which were two of my favorite scents. Taking a deep breath to get a whiff of the nice smell, I placed my bag on the floor and walked out of the room. When I walked downstairs to the basement, I had a scowl on my face, but I wiped it off when I came face to face with my friends. They would take it way too personal if they saw me looking at them like that.
"Hey, NaNa." Alaysha waved and returned her gaze to the TV.
"Hey Aniya, what's been up?" Cydney smiled, patting the seat next to her.
At least one of them had a decent greeting because the other one was disrespectful to me. Or I could be over exaggerating things because I was already in a bad mood before I got here. I really didn't want to be bothered by them.
"Hey guys." I sat down on the leather couch next to Cydney.
Cydney Williams was a pretty cool chick, in my opinion. She was laid back and I liked that a lot about her. She didn't like to be in any drama and she always kept her grades up; I could take a couple of notes on how to act from her. She was also very pretty, with bright green eyes and beautiful, clear skin. She was mixed; her dad was black and her mom was white. I loved her curly brown hair; it was always so bouncy and shiny.
Then, there was Alaysha. I didn't have a lot of nice things to say about her, so I kept my comments to myself. She wasn't so much my friend, but the mutual friend to my friend so I kind of just went along with it. I wouldn't even talk to her if it wasn't for Sam. Sam introduced us but I still didn't like her or her personality. She was nosy and always spoke her mind when nobody asked her to—she'd probably say the same thing about me. She also liked to stare, like I knew I was fine and all but dang, she didn't have to stare so much. If she wanted a picture all she had to do was ask.
"Dang, is Sam still making that popcorn?" Alaysha said, resting her chin on her hand.
"Well, she is making popcorn for all of us." I said, secretly rolling my eyes.
"Yeah, I know."
I had a strong feeling Alaysha didn't like me just as much as I didn't like her. The way she spoke gave it all away. I couldn't describe her tone of voice, except that it was harsh.
Don't worry, Alaysha, the feeling is mutual. Ion like you either.
"What movie are we watchin' first?" I turned my whole body towards Cydney, ignoring the girl on my other side.
"I was thinking Halloween, but Sam and Alaysha want to watch Scream first."
"I like Scream." I chuckled. "Sorry."
"Nah, it's cool. I'll watch that too. But by the way, Halloween is way better."
"Girl no! Scream is a classic, it's brilliant!"
Out of all the horror movies I had seen, Scream was by far my favorite one. I would never get tired of watching it; the first one was the best, the sequel was okay—definitely not as good as the first one—and the third and fourth one were also really good. I loved watching scary movies, they taught me what to do and what not to do if a serial killer ever came around. It wasn't realistic, that I knew, but it was still fun to watch to determine what I'd do in the situation. For instance, I would never fall like they always did in the movie when the killer was coming after them. I would be gone and out of sight from the killer; I most definitely would not fall if I knew some crazy guy was trying to kill me.
"Yeah, so is Halloween." Cydney giggled.
Just then Sam came downstairs with two big bowls of popcorn. "You guys ready to start the movie?"
"Yeah, put it on Scream."
