Chapter Twenty-Four - You're Meeting My Mama?
•••
"Oh my God! I told you to leave in the first place." I shoved Hunter's arm, but my eyes were trained on the door that was about to open at any second.
"I didn't think they were gonna be back so soon, I've only been here like thirty minutes." He frowned, shrugging his shoulders.
"Here goes nothing." I mumbled to myself.
I was going to get in so much trouble for having a boy in the house without her knowing. Even though we were strictly friends and didn't do anything, she wasn't going to believe that. One of my mother's biggest rules was having any guy over without letting her know. Even if she knew, she would still be on the fence about it. It was just one of those things that wasn't allowed really.
The door opened and my mama stepped through, followed by Deonte. My mama had on a black dress and heels; they went to some party that her job hosted. Deonte actually looked presentable for once. I bet he used my mama's money to buy his clothes. No, I bet he stole them; I wouldn't be surprised if he did that at all. Or he probably bought them with drug money. He was just a really bad individual over all.
"Who is he?" My mama pointed at Hunter. She didn't sound angry at all, but she had a stern look on her face.
Hunter looked uncomfortable. As he blushed, he rubbed the back of his neck and his eyes averted away from Deonte and my mama.
"This is my friend, Hunter." I quietly said.
"Why is he at my house?" Deonte scoffed.
"This ain't yo house. This is my mama house." I rolled my eyes at him. I was getting tired of him and his crap. He walked around here like he paid the bills, but my mama did all the work here. His ass just stayed here for free because he didn't have anywhere else to go. And she allowed it because she wanted companionship.
Hunter looked at me like I was crazy. He didn't understand why I was talking back to my mama's boyfriend. In fact, him and my mama didn't know why I was talking back. Only Deonte and I knew why I was talking back to him. I grew a pair of balls because I knew he wasn't going to do anything to me with my mama present.
"What the hell you just say to me? Did you hear her, baby?" Deonte's eyes widened.
"It's not your house." My mama shrugged her shoulders.
"You takin' up for her and she just talked to me any kinda way?" He narrowed his eyes at my mama.
"She's my kid. Nobody comes before her."
My heart warmed at my mama's words. I knew that's how she felt and it didn't surprise me at all, but the fact that she really didn't know who this guy was surprised me. She still didn't know what he did to me and what he probably would do to me—if I was alone in the house with him again. I felt sorry for Hunter right now; he was in an awkward position. I wouldn't blame him if he ran out the door and never came back to my house.
"And I'm yo man." His voice boomed throughout the house.
"Stop yelling in my house." My mama raised her voice at him. "I'm the only one who allowed to yell, I pay the bills."
I inwardly chuckled at her infamous line about her paying the bills. She never failed to mention it to either of us. I was getting a kick out of their little argument in the making. I had been waiting so long for this. Hopefully, they would break up and leave him packing to go wherever he came from—for good.
