Ashe kicked the gravel, her feet moving back and forth. Her hand came up, and she inhaled the bitter taste of tobacco. She swiftly blew out, flicking the cigarette to the floor and grinding it with her shoe. She looked to the side, gazing at Nash blankly.
"May I help you?" Ashe asked Nash, her raspy voice scratching at her throat.
His mouth twitched into a frown, noticing her blood shot eyes from all the tears. "That's uh- That's not good for the baby, Ashe."
"I'm not keeping it," Ashe said just above a whisper. "Plus, there's nothing in my stomach. Not growing yet, at least."
"What? You have to!" Nash argues, swallowing the lump in his throat. "I know you don't want anything to remind you of him; but you can't just get rid of his kid," Nash says bravely.
"He doesn't care himself, Nash," Ashe breathed in, the cold air chapping her lips. "And he never will," She finished, standing up from the wooden swing and beginning to walk away.
Nash gritted his teeth, pulling Ashe by her forearm to stand in front of him. "Ashe," Nash grabbed both of her hands in his. "Please don't."
"Nash. I am still young; I don't even know what it's like to be an actual mother." Ashe let out a bitter laugh, pulling her hands away from his. "I'm not keeping it."
"What if he was here?" Nash asked, nervously chewing on his bottom lip. Nash knew it was wrong to ask a question like this- a question about him. But, he couldn't help it. He was curious, and his mouth moved before he could even comprehend what he was saying.
"That wouldn't change shit," Ashe snarled, her raspy voice becoming deep and monotone. "I will never, ever love him again. So why love his child?"
"But it's not only his." Nash interjected, trying to keep a steady voice.
"I don't care. I don't want it- Nor will I ever want a child with him, he is a monster. One that creeps up into the dark and makes you feel happy again, only to tear it down by saying four simple words," Ashe rasped, tears welling up in her eyes.
She let them flow down her cheeks. She didn't care about her appearance anymore, she knew she was a mess. Her light brown skin contrasting with her light brown eyes and blotted mascara, her used to be perfectly rich & silky hair now knotted everywhere.
"Let's just drop the topic, okay?" Ashe laughed dryly, walking away from Nash.
She stopped at the back door, hand on the handle. "Tomorrow I'm going to the abortion clinic," Ashe paused, opening the door. "I'll see you after."
Nash stared blankly at the back door as she went inside, and closed the door shut. He waited until she left back to her temporary room, and quickly took out his phone.
Nash typed a few things on his phone, then opened the messages app:
Nash: What did you do?
and with a simple click of a button, it was sent to the man who missed her most. Him.
