Laying little Henry down after feeding him, a knock came at the front door.
"Meryl, it's Tracey! Let me in." She continued to knock.
I made my way from Henry's room, and opened the door.
"Tracey hi! I wasn't expecting you. Was I? Don't mind the mess!" I let Tracey in. As we made our way to the kitchen, boxes filled the living room. Almost empty.
"Meryl, what is going on here?" Tracey hadn't known anything, Don and I were hush hush about everything lately.
"Tracey, I think you should sit..." It was an uneasy tone.
"Well.... I'm pregnant, and we need a bigger house! So Don and I found a house in Connecticut. I know what you're thinking! What the hell is there over there? There is no paparazzi for one, and its quiet. Plus i can work practically from anywhere. We just want these children to have normal lives!" I was nauseous and nervous, all at once!
"What do you mean doll? You can't move I'll never see Henry.... and you're pregnant? Mer why didn't you tell me!?" Tracey's voice was breaking, and almost to a tearful eye!
"Trace believe me I wanted to tell you, but Don decided it was better not."
"Not? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Don was actually going to let you move without saying a word to your best friend. Practically your sister! I can't believe this. So what, you were just going to drop off the face of the earth, and then make a reappearance over East?" Her voice had a thick British accent, amok, and it only happened once in a blue moon!
With that Tracey picked up her purse and stormed out the door! Never to return? Truthfully, I can't say as I would either.
While Henry slept,I packed more boxes, and waited for Don to get home. Don was doing a professor job at UCLA. Payed enough with my wages, at the moment! We had decided to only tell our parents about the move. Both enthralled with the decision, so that they could see their grandchildren! Don and I settled on a nice house just a little outside Salisbury, Connecticut. It was on a lake, six bedrooms, and three full baths. Beautiful home, but I didn't want it at first. I am not one who 'loves' nature, but Don adores it. I wanted a nice home in the suburbs, but that is hard to do when you're Meryl Streep and Don Gummer! So, we settled on this house, in the middle of nowhere, peace and serenity. Now that Henry was healthy and at home, this meant I could start working again! I know, I shouldn't, but I had to leave so soon when he was born, and we never finished the production! Now with me being pregnant and all, we had to finish. I put the last picture of Don and Jane in the box, and started to seal it when I heard the door open!
"Hi girl! Why are you packing and lifting again? I told you not to!" Don was impatient as ever with me being pregnant, and he hated seeing me making the slightest of a move.
"Don, honey I promise I'm fine! I didn't lift anything, but I am a little emotional right now. Will you go check on Henry babe?" Don nodded his gentle head and turned towards the upstairs bedroom.
Shouting down the stairs, but quietly. "What's wrong girl?"
I tried to be loud enough so he could he me! " Nothing really, just Tracey popped in, and saw all our moving gear! She was thoroughly upset when I broke the news to her, and she stormed out of here!"
"Oh no! Do you think I should try to call her?" Don asked with a hushed tone.
"No darl, give it time, okay?" he had listened and obeyed, almost as a dog would!
Don made his way back downstairs, without a baby boy in his arms. He could tell that I had been crying. Made his way towards the mantel sat on the floor next to me, and just wrapped his arms around me.
"Just remember this, the love one endures from a friend in a lifetime will never amount to the love I give to you!" Such a calmed, and relaxed tone.
As I though upon those words tightly wrapped in his arms, the emotions drained me, and I fell asleep.
