"I think that's the last box girl!" Don had walked out of the empty house. I stared at the mantel, aimlessly wandering through my mind about the times, short one we shared.
"I'm coming! I promise!" I yelled out the front door while still keeping one foot in the door. I couldn't take myself out of this home. As I blatantly looked into the empty bland house, Don grabbed my waist.
"Girl, you'll be okay! We will be okay! Now we can build a home, as my parents would say, and for the better." You are my comfort Don, you bring me such solace. We walked out together and closed the door.
Little Henry is passed asleep in the back seat of the car. Silence throughout the car, and I was alone. Don had drove his truck, and Jane drove the moving truck. We stopped at a rest area and decided where we would rest for the night. The sun setting over the horizon, behind us like the past, was beautiful. I could not deny that I was sad leaving Tracey, but it was for the better of my family. She would come around to it right? It's just that paparazzi is so overwhelming, and I am starting to show! Dusk slowly started to sweep the sky when we pulled into the Comfort Inn. Normally Don and I would sleep together, but Henry's crib is broken down, so Henry would sleep with me. Settling into the room for the night was calm. Henry was wide awake and hungry, but I think we all were. Jane had popped in from her room with some Chinese takeout, so we ate it. Occasionally Chinese was my favorite, but now it's nauseating. Everything was frustrating lately, and I was overly emotional as always. Don somehow keeps all of us sane. Laying in the bed with Henry on my chest, reminded me of how precious life is, and how lucky I am. Having the warm little soft body snuggled over the baby bump, Henry and I fell asleep.
"Meryl, girl? We gotta go!" Don woke me up, and Henry was already packed away in his seat! I was slightly irritated that Don let me sleep so long. I hated feeling rushed!
"Okay! Okay! I'm coming dear!" I got up and made myself look decent then got into my car ready to drive, but this time to the new house!
Don came over and leaned in the car window.
"Ya know, once we are in this new house I'm going to have to make it mine!" Kissing my cheek, he smirked.
"Donald Gummer... are you insisting that we make love on every counter top of our new house!?"
"Well I mean we could make two babies in that stomach..."
"Dumbass, it doesn't work that way!" He laughed then winked, and made his way to the truck.
After a long 3 hours, we were nearly there. Henry had waken and was hungry, so we had to stop on the side of the highway a couple of times. Finally after 6 hours we were almost there.
Welcome To New Jersey! The interstate sign had welcomed me into my home state. Don and I asked my mother to take Henry for a week, so we could get the house together. I was nervous, since my mother was alone and hadn't had a baby in a long time!
I pulled up to my mothers house and knocked on the door. Oh hell why am I knocking? It's my house for Godssakes!
"Mom? I'm here!?" Holding Henry's car seat, we moved into the kitchen.
"Meryl! Hi Honey, oh and look at Henry! He has already gotten so big!" Her face was glazed over with sheer joy!
"Hi. mom! How are you? Are you sure it's okay to leave Henry here?" I kissed her on the cheek and sat at the table. Exhausted.
"Oh my, Yes! Honey it's fine. It gives me a reason to come to Connecticut and see the house!" My mother always had an excuse to see me! I grabbed a bag we had left out for Henry, and I coddled him close to my chest. I never had him away this long. I gave Henry and my mom a kiss and left.
The Interstate sign stated another 200 miles to Salisbury. I turned on the radio ,and drifted away. How on earth could I be this blessed? A wonderful husband,a beautiful baby boy,and now another baby. A beautiful house to make a home, and a great career. I honestly can't think of anything to stop me.
Exit 54B. Salisbury turn left. Well this was it. My new state, and my new escape. A big patch of colorful leafed trees on the right side of the road catered to my driveway. I pulled into the big long, winding driveway to fine myself front of a old Victorian styled house looking over 26 acres and a lake.
"Girl! You made it! How was your mom? Jane already left, I took her to the airport about an hour or so ago. " Don looked so happy to call this his.
I walked up the front porch steps into the entry, and was just in awe. It was an old stained oak floor with egg-shelled color walls, and a coat rack. I made my way into the living room where the coach was already. The walls were deep maroon color with a gorgeous ceiling fan and two bay windows on the far side of the room. Over looking the lake, I sat down on the couch and just took it all in.
"Don? Com're a minute! Please!" Shouted into the hall out the house, hoping he'd hear me.
Don entered with two boxes into the livingroom.
"Girl, what's up!" Don set down the boxes by the mesmerizing cobble stone fire place, and made his way over to me.
"I'm ready to take up that offer, and you've been working hard! How about some play?" A sexy low tone is normally what breaks him.
"Oh girl.... I am ready to make this our home!" With that Don picked up my pregnant ass and took me outside.
"Donald Gummer what on earth are you doing?" I gave him a puzzled look.
"Shhhh... it's a surprise, just trust me." Don looked strait ahead.
There was a white gazebo that overlooked the acres of land and the lake. He had candles and a picnic basket in there. A fleece blanket was laid out, and a bottle of wine to accompany it. He sat me down, as I was in awe.
"What is all this Don?" I couldn't help but chuckle while saying it.
"To build a home you need memories, and I want this to be the first!" Don crawled over me and caressed my neck with soft kisses.
