I ran the brush through my light brown hair again, making sure that it was perfect. I stepped back from my desk, looking at myself in the mirror that sat above it. I wore a strapless blue skater dress, it wasn't frilly or bright or anything, just simple, the way I liked it. I added a small bit of eyeliner and mascara, just to make my eyes stand out a bit more. But other than that, I wore no other make up. My skin wasn't to bad, but I didn't want to make it worse my caking my face in cosmetics.
Tonight was special, so even if I didn't look ok, I still wouldn't let that bother me. It would be the last time I would walk through the doors of my school as a junior pupil. Our school dance was tonight. It was more of a final year party for us juniors, but other year groups did attend too.
I grabbed my small blue clutch, and smoothed out my dress, before taking a deep breath and waking out my bed room door.
I took one step at a time down the stairs, being careful not to fall in the medium heals my mum insisted I wore. I would much rather wear blue pumps or something, but she wouldn't have it, telling me the heals would compliment the dress brilliantly. I didn't disagree though, because they really did.
I reached the bottom of the stairs, feeling proud of myself for not falling down and breaking my neck.
"Alissa, Come quick we have to leave soon, and we want to get pictures." I heard my mum call from the living room. I smiled to myself as I made my way into the room.
"You look amazing Al." My dad said happily as I walked in.
"Thank you." I blushed.
"Ok. Al you stand here and Mark and Bri stand on either side." My mum said, taking my hand and leading me to the front of the fire place, my dad and younger sister following.
Many photos were taken, so many that my cheeks started to hurt from smiling so much. My mum told me it was for family photo albums, but I think she just didn't want me to leave.
I was going to the dance with my friend Finn and my other close friend Leah was going with his twin brother Jack. We have all been friends since pre-school, and I always thought, what is the point in finding a date for one night? Instead of going searching for a boy, me and Finn decided it would be nice if we went together. My parents where ok with this obviously because they knew Finn well, and his family were quite close with ours.
I excused myself from the living room, and went to the kitchen, getting a drink from the fridge.
About half an hour to wait and then it would be the last day of school.. Two months of freedom and fun. Well so I hope. You never know what can happen.
I stood thinking about what has happened to me in my life so far. I was so engrossed in my own thoughts I didn't notice the boy sitting on the counter across from me. His legs dangling of the edge.
I laughed. "Hi jack."
"I''m Finn!" He said.
"No you're not." I shook my head, "You've done this to me loads of times jack, I can tell you and Finn apart!"
He sighed. "I need to try it on someone who hasn't known us for 14 years."
"Try what?" Finn asked, walking into the kitchen.
"Fooling people into thinking I'm you." Jack smirked.
"That doesn't work because everyone knows I'm the sexy one, Right Al?" Finn said turning his head to me.
"Right." I laughed, "Anyway you guys are looking very posh tonight."
I admired their black suits and white shirts. "Very formal." I added.
