Everybody laughed after Zane told them what happened in the hallway. I had to relive the embarrassment. "Whatever guys. It's not like something like that has never happened to you," I stated. That made most of them shut up. Theodore started a new conversation, and we didn't bring Braydon up again.

All the way home Amethyst went on and on about her date for homecoming. I stopped listening after awhile. We got home, and there was a surprise waiting. Onyx was home from the university. "Onyx! You're home!" I yelled as I ran to get a hug. "Sapphire, how have you been? How is football going?" He asked. "Great," I answered. Amethyst asked Onyx why he was here. "The entire school and the dorms are infested with cockroaches. School is cancelled until the fumigation is over," Onyx replied. She scowled in disgust, and Onyx and I laughed.

Suddenly, the door flew open. Jasper walked in after walking home. The middle school is only a few blocks away, so he can walk when the weather's nice. He looked up, and ran to Onyx. He hugged him for a second, Onyx explained why he was home, and we all ate pretzels. Onyx and I made up this thing a long time ago, that you have to sing this stupid song when you eat pretzels. The boys and I sang it, but Amethyst was 'cool' and just ate them silently.

Onyx is like my best friend. We talk about everything. Homecoming popped into our conversation when he asked if I had a date. I said no, and told him what happened on the way to lunch. "Well, if he won't ask you, ask him. Braydon might be afraid you'll say no and humiliate him. That happened to me a lot." Advised my brother. "If I ask him, I might be humiliated."
"Sapphire, you know how to shake embarrassment off. Plus, you'll probably get a date anyway, even if it's not Braydon."
