CHAPTER THIRTY NINE;;

Rose was the first to react, pushing past Harry and myself. I shoved everything back in the envelop, clutching it in my fist before taking Harry's arm and following Rose to the entrance of the restaurant.

The three of us stood at the arched doorway, looking out to find someone, anyone, that looked suspicious at all tonight, but we saw nothing.

Only a couple of people walking back to their cars after their dinner.

"Is anyone going to explain what the hell is going on?" Harry questions.

My heart was pounding in my chest and my breathing was heavy as I continued to scan the area one last time before turning to Rose, "Do you think it was a joke?"

"I'm not laughing," Rose answers me, her eyes still eyeing the place cautiously.

"Neither am I," Harry spoke up, waving his hand in the air. "If you guys haven't noticed, I'm standing right here and listening to the conversation about a topic I clearly missed,"

"Some anonymous person gave the envelop to Madeline, one of the hostess here," Rose explained. "And told her to give it to Mia,"

"Why don't we ask this Madeline girl who this person is?" Harry suggested, dividing his attention to the two of us. "Maybe she could tell us a little bit about their appearance. Then, we'll branch out and search for this person,"

"Let's get to the bottom of this," Rose nods, walking back inside the restaurant and went straight to Madeline who was cleaning one of the tables. Rose grabs her arm, turning her around and says in a firm tone, "We need to talk,"

Madeline was surprised to see us but I can see a flash of fear in her eyes, "Did I do something wrong, Miss Walker?"

"I guess we'll find out," Rose says before dragging her across the restaurant into an aisle; at the end were two doors, one coloured pink and one blue at the top of it was a sign that says, toilets.

"The person that gave you this envelop," I say, holding it out. "What did they look like? Short? Tall? Brown hair? Blonde?"

"Um," The hostess shuts her eyes as she tried to remember. "He was wearing a hat and sunglasses,"

"You're going to have to do better than that, Madeline," Rose tell her, tucking her hair behind her ears. "What exactly was he wearing? Was there a team logo on his hat? Did he have facial hair?"

"I don't remember, Miss Walker," Madeline stammered. "A black hat. Or maybe brown. I think he was wearing jeans,"

"You think?"

"Come on, Rose," Harry says, pulling her back slightly as soon as her tone came out furious. Rose was never one to lose her temper but once she does, you wish she hadn't. "She doesn't remember. Let it go. It's not her fault,"

I flicked my eyes to Madeline, "You can leave us now. Thanks for your help,"

"Help?" Rose raised her voice. "She wasn't helpful at all. She can't go around, accepting envelopes from strange guys and not remember what they look like!"

"She thought he was my boyfriend, Rose,"

Madeline nodded vigorously, "I did! I'm so sorry! I thought it was a present. Was something bad in the envelope? Do you want me to call the police, Miss?"
