•Nick's POV•
"Thanks for the ride, Mrs. Carson." Briella and I got out of the car and walked up the path to my house.
"No problem, hon. I'll be back in two hours to pick up Briella," said Mrs. Carson.
We nodded in understanding and stepped inside. This was it. The big reveal. Briella was finally going to meet my dad.
I couldn't help feeling nervous. "Dad, this is Briella. My...my girlfriend."

•Briella's POV•
Nick's house was a little on the small side, much different than mine, but it was nice and homey-looking. The building was all brick, except for the roof of course. There were no decorative pumpkins or skeletons set up, and I wondered if they had any.
When we went inside, the smell of booze hit me like a pile of bricks. I held back a cough, trying to ignore the stench. Thank God Nick's clothes never smelled like this!
Other than the smell of alcohol and day-old cigarette smoke, I could sense a tiny wisp of...pumpkin spice? Oh, yep. I looked at the cluttered kitchen counter and saw a pumpkin spice-scented candle sitting among the newspapers and packs of cigarettes. At least there was something to distract from the stench of beer.
"Dad, this is Briella, my girlfriend," Nick said, pointing to me as he said my name.
I looked at the man sitting on the couch and was surprised to see that he didn't look much like his son. Nick's dad had tangled, light brown hair that reached his chin. He'd tucked it behind his ears, and I wondered if he always did that. Today he was wearing a white cotton shirt with quarter-length sleeves, along with an old pair of sweatpants.
When he stood to meet my gaze and shake hands with me, I noticed that his eyes were the exact same blue as Nick's. So they did have something in common!
"Hey," I said nervously as Mr. Potter shook my hand. He had a firm grip, which surprised me because of the loose way he held himself.
"So this is the girl you've been talking about," he said. Not a question, just a statement. I searched for a hint of judgement in his voice but found none. That was a good sign.
"Should I make lunch?" Nick asked.
"I'll do it. Give you two some privacy," his father replied.
"Actually," I interceded, "I wanted to get to know you."
"Oh. Uh." He looked away awkwardly and I blushed.
"Why don't we go out for lunch, then?" Nick suggested.
"Okay," said Mr. Potter.
"Sounds good to me."

Author's Note: Sorry for the short chapter! I was going to make it longer, but decided I'll save lunchtime for the next one. Sorry it's taken me so long to update this! I was working on my story Emma's Choice; it's finished now, though, so I'm back to writing this. I'll try to write some more tomorrow. Until then!
