Cast Out

Thunder of feet and the lightning of screams outside the castle. My mother is running around frantically. My father is yelling and pointing.
My father runs out quickly and my mother sweeps me up. I'm tucked under her arm.
The cold is like a knife to the chest. It's always cols here, but today it's colder. The warmth of my mother is gone as she sits me on a rock, kisses my forehead, says bless you child, and is gone.
Metal clashes against metal I remember the next moment vaguely. The next thing I recall is being held in the arms of a foreign man and flying through the air.
A woman takes me in her arms. She looks like the man. Softer though, warmth radiates from her. Like my mother. She walks slow and looks down like I'll be gone and her arms will be empty.
We enter a room lavishly decorated and a golden crib in the center. She places me in the crib, I stare at her, she turns away, so I do to and I'm face to face with another child.
