False hope

Mae rushed into the room and whispered something illegible.

I looked up and raised my eyebrows. "Wha??"

"Lincolns here to see you!!" She jumped up and down.

"What!?" My heart started racing. "Why would he want to talk to me? I- he- what?!"

"He's waiting outside!" Mae squeaked and shoved me out the door.

"Lincoln?" I walked up to him, my heart pounding. "You wanted me?" I could feel a drop of sweat trickling down my back.

"Yeah, how are you Dawn?" If he had been nervous at all, he wasn't now.

"I'm good I guess." Good, good?! I wasn't good, I was scared out of my mind!

"That's nice to hear.. well I just wanted to talk to you about earlier. The girl I was sitting with at Dags diner was Alisha. She is my girlfriend. I just really wanted to see how you were doing. And it's good to know you're doing well." He hesitated for a second, then stepped closer and whispered: "She is very jealous of other girls, that's why we left."

My heart sank, but at least I knew that I had no chance. "Yeah, well it was nice seeing you."

"Yeah, I wish I could have stayed at the party, but I have to get to bed so I can be ready for my training tomorrow." He turned and started walking to the door. He paused and looked back, giving a little wave. Then, he left.

I just watched in agony as he once again tore himself out of my life and crumpled up the page of my love story, tossing it in the trash can. Or maybe I could describe it better by saying he ripped my heart out, threw it on The floor, and stomped on it. Anyway, you get what I mean. I was hurt.

Mae peeked around the corner and shrugged. "Well, maybe next time." She giggled a little.

Usually, I was able to laugh with her, but now, I just wasn't feeling it. "Hey, I'm kind of tired, I think I'll go to sleep."

"What... why so early?"

"It's two in the morning Mae!"

"Oh! Is that what the clock said? Heh, I though it said twelve 'o clock. Hehe." She giggled again. "Well.. Okay! Goodnight!" She went back into a group of people and started talking.

Taking a final glance in Lincolns direction, I was disappointed to see he was truly gone. Oh well, what can you do? I mean, you can't just make someone fall in love with you. I wish you could, but that was only in fairy tales and children's books. I turned and walked down the hall, sliding my hands on the wall as I went because the lights were off. I reached my room and opened the door. "Ah!" I let out a wail as I stepped on Irene's hand. "What are you doing?" I felt a smile coming back.

"Woops! Sorry, we were just watching The Walking Dead again." Irene got up and put her phone in her pocket. "We'll leave now." She laughed as I grabbed her arm.

"No, I need to tell you something first."

"Maybe tomorrow, I've got to catch up on my riding in the morning.. and it's already the morning."

I let go. "Okay, bye guys." I frowned. Still no one to talk to about what happened that didn't already know what happened.. (Mae).

"Sorry Dawn, you can text me if you want?" Louise said as she opened my room door.

"Okay, maybe, but I think I'll get to sleep."

"Alright." Irene ruffled my hair and Louise slapped me on the shoulder playfully, then they left.

I turned on the light and sat on my bed. Sighing, I laid down and ran my hands through my hair. I wish something exciting would happen in my life. Anything. ANYTHING. My life was so boring, All I did was work, be sad because I had no one, and laugh with Mae. I needed an adventure or something. I sat up. Music always gave me inspiration. I'd go to Ria's Records tomorrow and see if she had any music that might give me inspiration.
