Hakeem. . .

It’s been two weeks since the incident at the office and neither me nor CJ had heard from Mr. Garcia. We’ve been going crazy trying to figure out how one day he tells us that we work for him now and for two weeks we haven’t seen or heard from him.

Niecey has been tripping on me lately. I can’t even blame her. I’ve been lying to her for two years and now that things are getting even worse I can’t just come out and tell her all of this. But, she’s my fiancé. How can I not be honest with her? I love her with all my heart and I have to tell her the truth.

Today is Shawny and Chris’s wedding. After the wedding and reception I will tell Deniece everything she needs to know.

Niecey. . .

I sat in the edge of the chair watching Hakeem stare completely off into space. For the past few weeks he has been zoned out. He barely talks to me. All he does is lie around and play 2K13 all day long. I’ve been talking to him, trying to see where his head is at about our wedding, but he has been avoiding the conversation. I hoped he wasn’t having second thoughts because I would hate to have to whoop his ass.

Here we are at Shawny and Chris’s wedding reception, and he was staring at the door like he was waiting for someone. Shawny and Chris started their first dance. Luther Vandross’s “Here and Now” started playing through the speakers. They moved slow and close. They looked so happy together, him cheesing and her blushing. I was so into them I didn’t notice Hakeem sneak up on me.

“Calling all other couples to the floor now!” The DJ yelled through the mic.

Hakeem stood in front of me with his hand held out towards me. I smiled then joined him on the dance floor. He held me and rocked me from side to side. We danced for a few more slow jams then CJ came over to us. “Hakeem, that package came in tonight. It’s our turn to do inventory.” What the hell was he talking about? Tonight was their off night because of Shawny’s wedding.

I noticed that Hakeem’s body tensed up and he griped my waist a little tighter.

“Baby, I thought y’all took off tonight?”

“Duty calls, Babe.” He kissed me on my forehead and let go of me.

“How am I going to get home Hakeem?”

He threw me the keys, “Chris will bring me home. I’ll be in around one or two. I love you.”

I was extremely hot. He left me at my best friend’s wedding and so did Craylin. They just left. Wait! Where’s Frankie? I scanned the room until I saw Frankie, with Liah on her lap feeding her cake. I walked over to them quickly and sat down.

“Hi  TeeTee Niecey.” Her mouth was full of cake.

“Hey Sweetheart. You enjoying the cake?” She nodded with her cheeks stuffed. Dre walked over holding Cassie’s hand. He smiled at Liah and she giggled.

“Hi Best friend.” He laughed and climbed up into the seat next to her.

“Heyy.” Cassie was just standing next to the chair so I picked her up.

“Heyyyyy Cassie.” She giggled. “Where’s your Mom Dre?”

“Over there,” he pointed, “talking to Daddy. I want cake Liah.”

“I’ll be back Frankie.” She was quiet, it made me wonder what was up with her. I’ll figure out later.

“Ok Hun.”

When I got up to the table Alex and her husband were into an intense conversation.

“Alex well who the hell. . .” He drifted off when he saw me.

“Deniece!” Alex jumped up and hugged me tightly. “Where have you been little sister?”

“Living life. Just finished school and I’m engaged.” I pulled my engagement ring, that was hanging from a chain on my neck, so she could see it. She cooed and congratulated me.

“Why are you wearing it on your neck and not your finger?” Before I could answer Tyler walked up and stared a hole in my face until I looked at him.

“What Tyler?”

“You’re engaged?”

“Yes.” He looked crushed but I could care less. That was years ago and him and I would never be anything. Not even friends.

“Congrats I guess.”

“Yea, thanks.”

“Baby.” I turned to see who’s voice I was hearing. I saw Chenelle and nearly lost my mind. “Deniece?”She sounded shocked and confused which pissed me off even more. “Deniece!” Now she sounded excited. What the hell?

“Chenelle,” I said dryly and uninterested.

“Y’all know each other?” Tyler sounded slightly upset but looked amused.

“Yes, she used to date Hakeem.” Tyler’s smirk faded.

“Your fiancé, Hakeem?” Chenelle’s face dropped.

“One and the same. Well Alex we have to catch up later,” I put my number in her phone. “Bye Cassie, Bye Jamal, Bye Alex, Ummmmmmm.” I strutted away and heard Chenelle mumble ‘bitch’. She’s still a hater.

I spent another two hours at the reception then left after telling everyone bye. Frankie wasn’t there anymore so I couldn’t see what was happening.

As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was knocked out.
