Niecey. . .
I woke up feeling weird. Last night felt like it was all a dream. I stretched and looked around. Everything was still here. Oh MY GOD. I looked down at my hand to see the ring. It was all real. I was now going to be waking up next to my fiancé. I looked down and Hakeem had his arms around my waist. He was such a big baby. I wanted to know so many things. When did he want to start planning? Were we just going to tell our friends or tell them at a dinner or some shit like that? I wanted to start right away. But, then I remembered that Shawny’s wedding was in two weeks. I would have to keep it a secret until after hers. I would hate for my best friend to think I was worried more about myself then her big moment.
“DJ, lay yo ass down and go back to bed.” Hakeem hated when I sat up in bed early in the morning. I tried to get out the bed but he wouldn’t let me. “So you think just because I’m wifin’ you that you can act funny?” He was trying to hold back his laugh.
“I been wifey, I’m just becoming your wife.” I flashed him the ring and kept pecking his lips.
“I guess you right Boo.” He tried to close his eyes and go back to sleep. But, I wanted to talk about our engagement.
“Well, since you’re up now I guess we can talk now?” He looked up at me and gave me that face. I smiled. “Good, so I was thinking we should keep our engagement to ourselves for about three weeks.”
“Keep what to our what for how long?”I could tell he thought I was tripping so I tried to explain.
“I want Shawny to feel like her big day is the most important thing to all of us. I can’t take her joy away by putting the attention on us.”
“Fine.” I knew it would be my way or no way. I loved it like that. “So, what kind of wedding do you want?”
“I will show you next week.”
“I have to go get the book I made.” He looked at me weirdly. “When I was like 14 I made this. But, it’s perfect.” I kissed him then got up to start my day. I looked back at Hakeem and he was looking at a text with an odd look on his face. I’ve never seen more fear. What the fuck was that about? I decided to wait to ask him because I knew that he would not like for me to be all in his business. But, I had to say something to him. Anything.
“Baby?” He popped his head up, trying to hide the fear.
“Wassup?”
“Can we keep the couch for our room? I’ll redecorate and everything.”I gave him my puppy dog face with pleading eyes.
“Yeahh Bae. If we gone keep living here when we get married then you redecorate it all.” My eyes lit up.
“Thank you!” I ran off to continue and he went back to his texts.
Hakeem. . .
I hoped like hell Niecey didn’t notice my eyes when I was reading the text messages. When I checked my phone there were like four messages all from Mr. Garcia requesting to see me immediately. I called his assistant to see what was happening.
When she picked up the phone she wasted no time.
“Hello Mr. Anderson. Mr. Garcia would like to see you as soon as possible.”
“Well, I can’t get to Miami until a week.”
“You’re in luck. He’s flying to California tomorrow morning. He would like to meet you at Jorge’s office. He has business for both of you plus a Mr. Craylin Jackson.”
“Well, I’ll get the messages along to them.”
“Ok, 8:00 sharp.” She hung up and I felt like something was going to go down. I called CJ, who was in the middle of fucking Frankie, first. That shit was weird so I told him about the message then hung up quick. I did the same with Jorge. Over the past few years Jorge was nothing like a boss to CJ and I, but more like a friend.
The next morning I went to pick up CJ. He came running out of the house with Frankie right on his ass.
“Craylin, you said you would watch Liah. I have to run errands.”
“I’ll be back Boo. I told you I got a meeting.”
“Jorge can wait, Craylin. Your daughter needs you.”
“I’ll be back before 12:00 Fran.” He jumped in and told me to speed off. I was confused.
“Did she just say Jorge’s name?”
“Yea, I told Fran about this last year?”
“And she’s fine with it?”
“As long as I call to check in, don’t get caught up, and make sure to tell her everything she needs to know. I didn’t think she would be so cool with it.”
“I proposed to Niecey last night.” I wanted to get that off my chest. He was staring at the side of my head.
“Congrats my nigga. So why you say it like that? Sound happy.”
“Man, I know I’m gone have to tell her about the business we in soon. I hope it can wait until she already says I do.”
“You not giving her enough credit. She will understand. Don’t she always say she a thug? She will be ok with this. I feel it.”
“I hope you right. If this meeting goes how I think it will I’m gone tell her tonight.”
"Good. You strapped?”
“No, I stopped carrying guns so Niecey wouldn’t get suspicious.”
“Ok then. Neither am I."
"Should we be?"
"Naah, no need."
