Hakeem. . .
I looked down at her watching her sleep so peaceful. She looked like an angel. Even with her eyes slightly puffy, her nose pale pink, and tears stained on her face. I know she was scared for me. But, I want her to feel safe and like nothing could harm her.
She doesn’t believe she’s pregnant. How could she not know? That shit is beyond me. Clearly, she was having my baby. I figure she’s a month and a half give or take a few weeks.
My phone vibrated on the table and I looked straight at the clock. 9:00 pm. Damn, time flies. I grabbed my phone and Niecey stirred a little in her sleep. I kissed her forehead and she settled. I had a message from CJ. It said that basically shit went wrong when he went to Miami again today. Now, we had a new enemy. His name on the streets was Lil Devil. But, the weird part was that he said he lived in Cali. We were going to have major problems.
I tried going to sleep but just couldn’t. Around 1:00 am I got up gently, trying not to wake Niecey up.
“Where are you going Hakeem?” Well, that was a total fail.
“I got to go meet CJ.”
“Ok Boo. Text me when you get there to make sure you ok. I love you.” She laid back on the pillow and fell asleep instantly. She was calm, too calm.
When I got into the warehouse I saw everyone already there at the table talking. CJ, Will, David, Rico, Mel, and even Omar. They immediately got quiet. I walked and sat down.
“CJ, what happened?”
“As soon as we pulled up to our hotel, there was a woman who walked up trying to flirt with me. I dismissed her and she moved straight to Rico saying that she was down for anything. Out of nowhere a man popped up and started shit. Ole’ boy pulled out his gun and all hell broke loose. We all pulled out our guns and then it got worse. Apparently the man works for Lil Devil. He says we ruined the biggest deal of the century by causing a scene in his hotel. We caused him major money and says we gone pay for that shit.”
“All this, over a bitch?”
“Well. . . Keem, you got to admit it. I am fine.” Rico was so full of himself being that he was Puerto Rican. We all laughed at his dumb ass.
“We trying to find out everything about him though. We need to find him before he finds us.”
“Alright man, lets hit the strip club.” Omar horny ass.
“Meeting over niggas. I’m going back home to wifey.” I hated strip clubs. Hoes everywhere was not my forte. Everybody got up and headed out except me and CJ.
“Hakeem, dawg I’m in deep shit.”
“What’s up?”
“I think Fran’s pregnant. But, she ain’t telling me shit. She found Danielle’s number in my phone and went snooping. She found what she was looking for too.”
“You still fucking with her? I thought you was through with that?”
“Only on occasion when Fran be tripping. I don’t love that hoe. Fran and Amelia got my heart and soul. But, when she gets mad I don’t get not even a kiss. I’m a nigga Hakeem. You know me.”
“You better fix this man. But, on the real I think Deniece is too. But, she denying it all.”
“I hope she is. I really want a little boy that’s just like me.”
“I don’t care if it’s a boy or a girl. I just want her to give me a baby. I want to know she ain’t ever gone leave me. I told her about our life today. She looked at me with so much fear.”
“She ain’t gone leave you nigga. Chill.”
“Well, let me get home to make sure she still in my bed.”
“I’m about to go see and Danielle and tell her we done. I can’t lose my wife, man.”
“Good, make sure you lock up.”
I left and sped to the store. I got a pregnancy test for Deniece. When I got in the house it was 3:00 am. Niecey was sitting on the floor eating out of a huge tub of cookie dough ice cream. She smiled up at me, looking guilty.
“Hey Baby,” she cooed, “You’re home early.”
“Ummmh, I just went to talk for a minute.” I went to kiss her and she tasted like ice cream. I sat on the couch and pulled her onto my lap, holding her tight.
“I got you something DJ.”
“Oooohhhhhh, what is it?” I pulled out the test and gave it to her. Her face dropped. “What the hell is this?”
“Go take it.”
“Why?”
“Deniece, we need to know if you’re pregnant.”
“I’m not,” she sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes. She got up and went to put the ice cream away. I grabbed the pregnancy test off the couch and went into the kitchen. I picked Niecey up and carried her to our bathroom in our room.
“You gone stay here until you pee on the damn stick.”
“No, I’m not.” She tried to push passed me and I lightly pushed her back. I slammed and locked the door. Her eyes grew big. She quietly grabbed the pregnancy test and did what I told her to do. She sat it on the sink and washed her hands.
“Can I go now?” I unlocked the door and motioned for her to leave. After the timer went off I rushed to check it but Niecey didn’t move from her position on the bed. I prayed then looked at the stick. It clearly stated positive. Yes! I walked into the room and sat on the bed.
“Baby?”
“What Hakeem?” Why was she mad at me?
“You mad?”
“Nope.”
“Yes you are.”
“I’m not.”
“You’re pregnant. You know that right?”
“Yes.” Tears started to roll down her cheeks.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m not ready yet Hakeem.”
“You will be. Just trust me.” I held her tight from behind as she just cried. I was happy as hell but she wasn’t so I kept it contained. She fell asleep and I followed suit. I was going to have a wife and a baby. I’m set for life.
