"Ash! You're here!" the girl gasped, throwing her bike down and running to her black-haired best friend.
Ash scooped Misty up in a friendly hug. "Of course I am! I wasn't gonna move on without seeing you first!" Pikachu nodded in agreement.
Misty giggled, spotting Delia Ketchum walking out of Ash's little house in Pallet Town. "Well, duh."
"Misty! Great to see you!" Delia cheered, making a beeline towards the two. "Oh, you two have grown so much!"
The blushing Ash watched his mother hug Misty. "Oh, mom." he scoffed, rolling his eyes.
"Ashy-boy!" Gary hollered, strolling out of his grandfather's lab with Umbreon at his side. "I see you've got Red over. Took 'er long enough to get here."
"Gary!" Ash chuckled, fist-pumping his rival. "... Shut up."
Gary smirked, narrowing his eyes and wiggling his eyebrows. "What? Defending your girlfriend, eh?"
"He is not my boyfriend!" Misty screamed, almost slapping Gary.
Delia chuckled, making Gary lean back on his heels in a calm manor. "Oh, hey Mrs. Ketch."
Ash rolled his eyes and put a hand on Misty to lower her anger level. Misty looked back at him. He was taller than her now. His arms were still slim, but with evidence of muscle on them. Her heart thumped inside of her chest as she felt her feelings take over.
"So, Misty." Ash smiled, making the girl jump in surprise. "How about you... oh, how do I say this... come on a journey to Alola with me?"
Misty's budding smile was in full bloom now. "Yes! Yes I will!"
"Oh, I see." Gary snickered. "Just you two, huh? Or are ya bringing your other friend along for the ride?"
The pair of question blushed. "Uh, I don't know yet." Ash coughed.
Gary nodded. "Okay. I gotta go help Gramps in the lab... smell ya later!" he saluted, jogging back to the large building with Umbreon.
"Alright, Misty. You can come to my house and help me pack, if you want." Ash beamed, grabbing her by the arm.
Misty blushed a tiny, itty-bitty bit. Her heart fluttered around... "Sure, Ash! I'd love to."
"Alright, kids. I'll make dinner and you two can catch up!" Delia sang, heading back to the Ketchum's humble little home. Ash and Misty followed, huge grins adorning their faces.
~~~
"So his robot attacked you?" Misty laughed, Pikachu at her side on Ash's bed.
Ash chuckled. "Yep. Clemont's a clever one though." he sighed, putting a bag of Pokémon Food from Brock in his lime-green backpack. "But I haven't even gotten to Serena yet!"
Misty's heart stopped. Another... girl. she thought. "Serena?"
"Uh-huh. She's a coordinator, like May and Dawn. But when she lost her first contest, she cut her hair!"
Misty raised an eyebrow. "Really?" Wow.
"Yeah." he laughed, adding his green and yellow pajamas to his backpack. "Apparently we went to Summer camp together... AND she's crushing on me. She even kissed me before I left!"
Misty's heart officially stopped. She stayed silent, looking at the floor awkwardly.
"Misty?" Ash said, concerned. "What's up?"
The redhead snapped out of it, though her heart was still in a million pieces at the bottom of her stomach. "W-What? What's... up? O-Oh, it's nothing really."
Ash cocked an eyebrow. "Okay? Anyway, it's a good thing she let me leave."
Misty's heart slowly mended at his comment. "Yeah, good," she managed under her breath.
Pikachu began to sniff the air. "Piii..." he circled around Misty to sniff her little red backpack. "Ka!"
Misty giggled and took her backpack off. "Oh, yeah! I forgot I had something for you, Ash." she cheered as she reached in, grabbing Ash's Pokémon League Expo hat, still in one solid piece. "Your mom gave it to me when you left for Hoenn, so I kept it!"Ash's chocolate-brown eyes lit up with excitement. "Thanks Misty! Hold on- I'll be right back." he smiled, running into his closet and closing the door. A few long minutes later, he bursted out, wearing his original outfit, complete with the hat. "I thought that since you wore your little outfit, I'd wear mine!"
Misty looked down at her yellow crop top and short-shorts... in astonishment. The outfit was a bit tighter, especially the crop top. She looked back up at her friend, blushing, and beamed. "Great idea Ash!"
Ash walked over and slung his backpack over one shoulder. "Now that I'm all packed-"
"Did you remember to pack your underwear, Ash?" Delia called from the hall. She walked in, holding a tray of pizza pockets.
Rolling his eyes, Ash threw his backpack back onto his bed. "Mom!" he growled, gesturing to the embarrassed Misty.
"Oh, c'mon Ash!" she laughed, reaching into a dresser drawer and pulling out a pair of light grey boxers with a Poké Ball pattern on them. She waved them in front of Ash's nose. "These are cute!"
Misty's eyes widened as her face got redder and redder. Ash facepalmed, snatching the boxers from his mother and putting them in his bag along with a few other pairs. Delia giggled, sat the tray on Ash's bed, and left the room.
"Sorry about that, Misty." Ash sighed, picking up a pizza pocket. "Let's eat!"
~~~
About an hour later, when the two were fueled up on a few batches of pizza pockets, Misty was getting ready to leave. Ash placed a hand on her shoulder.
Thump, thump. Misty tried to hold it down.
"Thanks for agreeing to come with me, Misty. This'll be an awesome adventure!" he grinned, looking into her eyes.
Thump thump thump. It was getting faster and harder for Misty to control. "No problem, Ash! My sisters came back a while ago anyway." she giggled as Ash led her out of the front door.
"Good! Now, I'll meet you back here at noon tomorrow, after I grab more supplies." Ash chuckled, hugging Misty from behind.
Thump-thump-thump-thump. Misty could hardly struggle to stay sane. She blushed, feeling his face against the back of her head.
"Goodnight, Misty." Ash smiled, letting her go. "See ya tomorrow!"
Thumpthumpthumpthumpthump. The girl's eye began to twitch. "B-Bye Ash! Have a good night!" she called, waving to him as she boarded her bike. "Bye Pikachu!"
The little mouse Pokémon poked its head out of the door. "Pi-ka!" he cheered as Ash shut the door.
Misty turned her head forward and let out a scream. Lights then began to turn on in the windows of the houses in the small town. Ash opened his window and leaned out.
"Misty, you okay?" He scoffed, shaking his head.
Misty's head was flooded with excuses. "Y-Yeah! I just ran over a rock and the... uh... Rattata bit my foot. I'm fine."
Ash laughed. "Alright, you better get some sleep soon. Night!" He called before slamming his window shut.
Misty faced the path of Route 1 once more. Biting her lip, she sped off into the woods.
