(A/N: So some are kinda serious and others...not so serious. Nothing I'd consider sensitive, though, but please, say something if you feel otherwise.)

Kai

Today you and Kai were out for dinner in the city. It was a cold and blustery night; fall had burst in like an unwelcome visitor. Though you were wearing a small jeans jacket and were fine, Kai had two jackets, a sweater, gloves, a scarf, and boots, and was still cold!

"Kai, why do you get so cold easily?" you asked him as you two exited the restaurant, opting to skip the jacket for the stroll home. The breeze felt nice in your hair, even if it did get a little messy.

However Kai seemed to freeze (pun totally intended). You glanced at him, but he visibly relaxed as he said, "Well, before Nya and I moved here, we lived in a village called Ignacia. It was a lot warmer back there. It never even snowed, actually."

Kai's slight nervousness was weird; normally you'd straight up point it out, but this time you decided to drop it. You were afraid that he would get defensive if you kept pushing it.

Anyways, you had another question. You were getting close to his car, which he'd had to park down the street. "Kai...can I ask you something?"

He looked at you straight in the eye this time, noticing your hesitation. "Sure, shoot," he answered, squeezing your hand.

"How come you don't go to school anymore?"

Kai was only a few months older than you; he was still old enough to be in high school. It was something that you'd always wondered about him, but didn't probe. Nya never discussed it, and you hadn't felt comfortable enough to ask until now. There was something about the night that made it seem appropriate to open up.

When he drew in a breath, looking down, you knew you had made a mistake. "Kai, I am so sorry. I shouldn't have-"

But then turned and smiled at you. "Hey, Y/N, it's not personal or anything. I was just thinking of how to start. It's a long story."

"I have time."

"Well, since the beginning, I was never a good student," Kai began to narrate as you two got into his car, and pulled out of the tight parallel parking spot. "I always rushed to get my work done, and never paid attention to the stuff I was doing, or what book I was reading. I don't think I was really dumb - well, maybe a little - but I definitely wasn't great at doing classwork. It was just boring. I wanted to go play outside or work with my father in his shop.

"And then, as you know, my parents passed." You squeezed Kai's hand a little and he smiled while continuing, "I was left by myself to raise Nya. I dropped out of school, and for a few years, ran Dad's blacksmith shop. But...business began to run kind of slow. So we sold the shop, pooled up the money we had left, and moved here. I worked a bunch of part-time jobs, and then finally opened up the welding shop! Meanwhile, Nya goes to school. And of course, I've met you. I couldn't be happier."

You grabbed his hand, kissing his knuckles. "And I'm glad I met you. So, so glad."

Zane

Today was the three-month anniversary of when you and Zane had started dating. Looking back, you couldn't believe that you'd gotten into any sort of relationship at all, let alone one that lasted so long. But you had no regrets.

To commemorate said anniversary, you'd made cupcakes for you and Zane to eat at lunch together. He had never brought something to eat before, claiming he ate at home. Today you'd change that. When the lunch bell rang, you raced to the cafeteria to meet him.
