Second meeting/hanging out more

Kai

Next week was Nya's birthday and you wanted to get her something nice this year. Nya wasn't the type of girl who wanted clothes, shoes, jewelry, and nothing else, but you couldn't afford her a brand new tennis racket, or some cool gadget-y things she'd been ogling the last time you two went window shopping.

Besides, you wanted her gift to be something personal, but you weren't exactly Martha Stewart, either. Since Nya and Kai had only moved here a few months ago, they hadn't had a lot of time to really settle in their small house. You'd seen Nya's room once. The walls were bare, save for some family pictures.

There was a newly opened welder's shop in town. You walked there, and inside, were beyond surprised to see Kai bent over the counter, writing something in a notebook. There were big machines and tools littered throughout the room, most of which you couldn't identify.

"Hey, Kai!" you greeted him as you approached the storefront.

He looked up at you; slight surprise as well as a smile took over his features. "Hi, Y/N! How's it going?"

"Pretty well. I didn't know you owned this place."

Kai chuckled. "I just opened up recently, so most people haven't really been here yet."

"You definitely have skills, and talent," you said, marveling at some of the models Kai had on display.

"So what brings you here? Not that I mind your company," Kai said with a wink, both his words and actions making you blush a little.

"Well, you probably know that Nya's birthday's coming up," Kai nodded understandingly. "I was wondering if you could make something for her."

Kai showed you several different projects he could make, though the two of you could tell that the simple flower tabletop decoration on the windowsill screamed Nya's name. The flowers even looked like cherry blossoms, her favorite. It was broken, so Kai offered to make you a new one. Unfortunately, that would be a little pricey.

"Kai...I'm sorry. I can't afford that," you said sadly.

"That's not a problem. I can give it to you for free."

"No!..I can't do that...but I really want to give Nya a present, too."

Kai looked thoughtful for a moment. "I've got an idea. What if we made it together? I can show you the basics of welding, and you can customize it however you'd like. It'll be a gift from both of us. You can pay half price."

Your eyes lit up. "You'd seriously do all that for me? ...You're not pulling my leg, are you?"

He laughed. "Of course I'm serious! Wanna come in and start tomorrow after you get out from school?"

"Sure!" you answered excitedly. A small fluttering in your stomach had begun to grow at the thought of spending more time with Kai. You couldn't wait!

Zane

It had been a week since your encounter with Zane in the computer lab. You didn't think twice about him. He was the complete opposite of you: good-looking, mild tempered, and not an overall jerk. But then again, you hadn't always been so irritable.

Today you were back in the lab to finally finish that paper. After half an hour or so of working you finally finished. You hit "print" and were about to go to the printer when an error message popped up on the screen:

OUT OF PAPER, PLEASE REFILL

You groaned in frustration, not really in the mood to talk to the equally grumpy librarian, when surprise, surprise, in walked Zane.
