8. Don't Let Him Lie To You

Darkness shadowed the looming trees, wrapping carefully around the branches hovering just above our heads. A cold, harsh wind blew in from the south, rustling past the dense tree trunks, and whistling in our ears. The silence curling around us in deadly patterns almost seemed to be our only enemy, fooling us into believing that no other remained than the three of us.

"Are you sure you can do this?" His voice was almost lost to the wind; he spoke so softly my ears had to strain against the taunting silence to hear him.

My eyes flickered over his form, taking in the gentle forest green eyes and musty light blonde hair. A faint line of fuzz circled his lips, revealing the nights spent deep in the woods without chance to shave.

"This is dangerous magic, Morgana." I watched as his lips moved to form the words, and gazed sadly into his worry filled eyes.

"I can do it, Percy." I whispered, wrapping my fingers tightly around the small, jagged crystal.

I brought it up before my eyes, staring into the clear surface.

"I'll be fine."

"But, Morgana, anything could go wrong-"

"She's right, Percy." A gentle feminine voice murmured from behind me.

I glanced up towards the brown haired girl, smiling at the trust she had in me.

"This is her only chance, our only chance. You want what's best for her, right?" She turned her eyes to Percy, questioning him sharply with her gaze.

"Of course I do, Sally." He said.

His hand reached out and slipped into mine. I took the crystal away from my eyes and smiled at him.

"It'll only be a few years at most, I promise." I said, giving Percy's hand a reassuring squeeze. "And then I'll be back here, and the Kingdom will be saved."

"This is about more than the kingdom." Percy murmured, turning me around so that I faced him. "This is about your safety too."

"Derek can't get to me there." I whispered. "I'm going to be just fine."

"And the crystal, it'll work?" The girl's voice spoke from behind me.

"Sally, this is the same crystal that helped me harness my powers since childhood." I said as I turned to face her, keeping Percy's hand locked in mine. "It'll do all I wish. After a year's time of it being off, my magic will return to me as will my memories. That can garentee my safety."

"No one's ever had to conjure a portal like this one before, though." Percy spoke up.

I smiled. "And no one's ever seen power like mine before. Just trust me."

Percy pulled away from me and stepped back to stand beside Sally.

"Of course we will." He said.

I nodded and inhaled deeply, turning round so that my back faced the both of them. Then I set the white crystal down onto the soft dirt, drawing a faint circle around it with my finger. I stood back up and faced the open air above the crystal, placing my palms face downwards directly above it.

"Revelance Crystal, who's helped harness my magic, switch now to Blood Crystal, who is to restrain my magic. Without memories and power alike you are to keep me until after exactly a year without being round my neck. Then, return to your former purpose and return my memory. Enact only once I have passed through a portal of time. Let this be done."
