Professor Lupin opens the cupboard. All hell breaks loose.
Colin walks forward: Petrified him turns into a funny stone statue.
Ginny steps up: She melts Tom Riddle into a puddle.
Luna comes forward: She turns Hecklers into weird, annoying parrots.
We were all laughing.
Other kids go through, successfully making their boggerts funny.
Then, it's my turn. Going forward, I had no idea what mine would be. I am deathly afraid of heights, but how would that work? I look at the changing creature bravely. It turns into the only person who has ever frightened me.
Ms. Peters. She is huge, big enough to make me look like I'm five again.
"You will amount to nothing," She says," No one wants you. You will never leave, you are nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing." Suddenly, what I heard near the dementor makes sense. My greatest fear is my childhood. No. I can't stand here like this. I can't let my past haunt me here. I need to escape. I run out of the room, not knowing where to go, and I don't care. I need to think. I need to talk to someone where I won't be found. Suddenly, something hits me. Sirius.
I sprint down the stairs. "Meg!" Ginny, Luna, and Colin chased me. "No! Stop! Leave me alone!"
"Meg please..."
"No!"
"Please stop.."
"Leave me alone!" I fling my wand hand behind me, with my wand in it. I hear Colin cry out. I turn to see him flung back. Ginny and Luna go to help him and I get away as fast as I can. I press the knot on the Whomping Willow. I look to see if I was followed. I wasn't. I run down the passage and get there as fast as humanly possible.
As soon as I get there, I slow down.
"Who's there?" I hear a voice shout. "I swear I'm armed!" A man with scraggly hair and very gaunt. "Uh, hi! I'm Meg, and I'm not going to turn you in. I want to talk to you. I'm a friend of Harry's!" His face visibly softens. "Harry Potter?" I nod and add," He doesn't know you're innocent. Or that I am here. Or that anyone knows I'm here, because no one does." He nods. "You wanted to speak with me?"
All of the happenings of the past 15 minutes washes over me. I go to Sirius' arms and hug him. He goes completely stiff. Feeling his unresponsive-ness, I pull back.
"Oh my Merlin, sorry, I-I just, I've never had anyone aside from my friends to talk to. Let me start completely over. Hi, I'm Meg. I'm twelve, and I'm good friends with Harry. He's like my brother. My other best friends are Ginny Weasley, Colin Creevy, Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom."
He cuts me off," Longbottom... oh, the poor kid."
I continue," I wanted to just come down and talk to you about what's happened to me since we got on the train." He nods and I proceed to tell him EVERYTHING that's happened.
"Wow, that's quite the adventure, so, did you have any questions?"
"YES! Actually, I was wondering what it was like to be an animagus!"
He chuckles," You sound like me when I was about your age. It feels like your a person, but no one recognizes you, you have a few extra body parts, and, depending on what animal you are, your size is a lot different. I could teach you to be one if you want." I gasp and nod quickly. I'm so excited. "Great! We can start in, oh, what's today?"
"Monday."
"We can start on Saturday, here, as early as you can get here. And," his stomach growls," bring breakfast." I smile and leave, forgetting I left my friends worried.
