Hi. I'm Meg. I live in an orphanage with all the other kids like me, orphans I mean. All I have is some clothes and some books. Harry Potter books to be exact. Harry Potter is my favorite thing in the entire universe.
"Meggy, Meggy, Meggy, Meggy!" an older boy ran down the hall to my room. Yeah, my room. I'm the only girl here. The older boy's name is Eric and he is like my brother.
"Yeah Ero?" Ero. That has always been his nickname.
"Guess what day it is today?" Ero grinned.
"Um, August 12th?" I gasped. "It's August 12th!"
I ran down the hallway, slid down the banister, and hopped down with a thud. Sadly, my combat boots made a REALLY loud thud.
"Who was that?" Ms. Peters hissed coming out of the kitchen. "Oh, its you. I was about to actually give you a real meal, but just for that I think that you should go to your room. No food."
With a huff I stalked upstairs mumbling,"I love you Miss Hattigan," sarcastically.
"What was that?" she snapped.
"Noooothing!"
This happened to me more than once, so I always passed time singing softly, and sometimes, the boys would sing with me.
"It's a hard knock life, for us."
"It's a hard knock life, for us!" Ero and his twin brother, Joey joined.
"Stead of treated, we get tricked! Stead of kisses, we get kicked!"
By this point, all the other boys were singing with us."It's a hard knock life, it's a hard knock life, It's a hard knock liiiiiiiiife! For us!"
"SHUT UP!"
"Yes Ms. Peters!" we all called.
I closed my door, which locked from the outside, and heard the lock click.
"Sorry Meg," Joey whisperd, "This must be a sucky way to spend you 11th birthday."
"It's ok Joey! I'll be fine!" With that, I pulled the latest Harry Potter book, Prisoner of Askaban.
