Chapter 3
After what seemed like forever at the gym, it was empty besides Devon and I. Devon was switching off the lights while I grabbed my kit bag.
‘’You know I think you should have the weekend off and leave the job for next weekend.’’ Devon’s voice echoed through the building.
‘’You know I can’t do that. Besides, I want to do it. Tomorrow’s Saturday and I have nothing to do. I just want to get it done and then I can clean my guns the rest of the day. You wanna help?’’ I started walking towards the gym doors with Devon next to me. He lived in his own apartment down the road which was two minutes away.
‘’I was actually wondering if you wanted to go catch a movie with me unless you’d prefer to clean guns?’’ I stopped walking, stopped thinking, heck I even stopped breathing. Was Devon asking me out on a date? No way. Nah uh… Absolutely not, I mean what would he see in me anyway? I’m a psycho who loves to kill.
I took a deep breathe and asked what I was fearing, ‘’Are you asking me out?’’
Devon stood next to me looking nervous, ringing his hands together then tucking them in his jean pockets looking a bit hesitant.
‘’Yeah I’m asking you out. Dinner and a movie, what do you say?’’ I though about what he just asked me. I always thought of Devon as a brother and there is no denying that he was hot-wait, scratch that- he was damn sexy would be the right description, but that still didn’t change the fact that I hadn’t thought about myself being in a romantic relationship with him. I mean what happens if it doesn’t work out between us, would it be awkward or would he be angry?
Now that I think about it, I kind of wanted to give it a chance, just to see if there was anything. Devon must have taken my hesitation as a bad sign because immediately he started to apologise. ‘’It’s alright if you don’t you know, I mean if you prefer us as friends than that’s cool and-‘’.
‘’Dev.? Stop! I wanna go out with you, how about you pick me up at seven?’’ He visibly relaxed as I spoke, then straightening his shoulders. ‘’Yeah I’ll see you at seven. That means no job tomorrow.’’
I gave him a light chuckle and then smiled, ‘’No job, deal. Drive safe and see you tomorrow.’’ Devon smiled back as he started walking for his car again, me doing the same.
‘’You too Taylor, see you tomorrow.’’ He called back to me. I shook my head laughing at how excited he looked for our date.
Who new I would go out on a date with Devon of all people? My first date too…
Once getting back in my car and setting my kit bag at the back, I drove off straight for home, singing along to ‘Still Into You’ by Paramore. I felt giddy just thinking about going on my first date. I mean I know I’m not a girlie girl but I’m still a girl nonetheless.
When I arrived at my house I saw my mother’s car parked in the driveway. Her shift must be over.
I parked my car next to my mother’s, climbing out and locking the car. I walked up to my front door and opened it, immediately smelling my mother’s cooking coming all the way from the kitchen on the left.
‘’Mom? I’m home!’’ I set my keys on the key rake that hung on the wall.
‘’In the kitchen sweetie, how was school and work?’’ My mother’s light voice drifted through the house. As I rounded the corner of the kitchen, I saw my mom’s small figure standing over a pot on the stove. Her blond hair tied up in a neat bun. She still wore her work scrubs. If you had to put us together you could see the resemblance but I got my light brown eyes from my father and his tall figure.
