Chapter 2
The whole day went by in a blur. I wasn’t really interested in the classes because the only real thought in my mind was the job that waited for me. Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m weird.
I hurried to my locker after the last class, AP Math (I’m a geek).
I was placing my books in my locker when I heard his foot steps echoing down the hall. The school wasn’t that busy but there were still a few late leavers that hung around. The foot steps were getting closer and closer, making me wonder what he wanted. I could recognise his walk anywhere, the way he uses his left foot more often then the right because he hurt his right leg a while back and also because he was my brother. I grew up with him, I knew his pattern
Before he had a chance to say anything I shut my locker and spun around.
‘’What do you want Terrance?’’ I said with a bored expression. But deep down, I was sad. He only ever came to me when he needed something, never because he wanted to, or because he cared about what I was doing. No, he didn’t care. We didn’t have a great brother-sister relationship.
‘’How did you know it was me?’’ His deep voice asked in suspicion. Looking up at him I realised you really couldn’t tell we were related. Okay, so he was my half brother but still. I mean sure we looked alike when we were younger but now, not so much. He had his devalished blonde hair with a few strands that fell into his bright blue eyes. He was tall and well built. Sun kissed golden skin, every girl’s dream. Not that I was thinking that because I wasn’t, I was just saying. He wore a loose green shirt and faded blue jeans. He has this laid back aura around him that just screams out Popular.
He had this smirk he would always wear when ever he could, but the minute he saw me it would fall. It broke my heart to see that I was the one to cause it.
I realised I was staring and shook my head.
‘’I didn’t, but you’re the only one that would come up to me and I can probably presume it’s not to catch up. So I’m going to ask again. What. Do. You. Want?’’ I was annoyed because he was stalling. This must be pretty big then I thought.
Terrance sighed and ran a hand through his hair, looking at me. ‘’Yeah about that, I need you to tell mom that I’m staying at Caleb’s this weekend. I’ll be back Monday night.’’ He waited for me to answer him. Okay so he wasn’t actually being that mean to me today but that’s probably because he wasn’t in front of his friends.
‘’Fine, but if mom phones and asks where I am, tell her I’m busy at the gym okay? Don’t say anything else, deal?’’
He looked back at me suspiciously. I needed him as a cover for my job this weekend and I didn’t want my mother to phone Terrance to find out if I was or not. My mother was like that. She’s nosy, it’s amazing she hasn’t found out I’m an assassin. Seriously, it’s amazing no one has found out in this dumb town.
‘’Fine but what are you really gonna be doing?’’
I glared at him from behind my glasses and took a step forward. My head barely reaching his shoulder, causing me to look up as I spoke, my words coming out hard. ‘’None of your business so drop it or mom finds out you’re not at Caleb’s and we're both screwed. Got it?’’
He looked conflicted with whether he should push the subject or be rated out. He chose the safest option by nodding to me then walking off down the hall. Not a goodbye or thanks. That’s my brother for you. I hate the saying, ''You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family'', because it is so true. Not like I have any friends at this crappy school but I like to dream.
